Help wanted

Hi All

Need to make 30 -45 second clips of some football skills. Will have to film the players ourselves and edit ourselves

Equipment we have..

an iPad

a camera that can film

what apps etc are out there that allow editing and can add text or music over the video clip.

or any other ideas ?

Most computers will have windows movie maker or newer computers call it windows live movie maker... press windows orb, then press all programmes... should be there.

Look for quick tutorials on youtube

I didn't see a PC listed there so iMovie would be your best bet.

I assume the camera records to some kind of SD card or similar? Then you'll need an SD to iPad connector and follow the below guide:

depending on the quality you are after and lighting conditions you might be able to just use the iPad to film it

I have a computer as well to do editing if needed...

filming will be ipad, ipad mini or camera

I use Avid Studio, which now goes by the name of Pinnacle Studio. Brilliant. Filmed and edited a music video for work, exported it too, all just on the iPad. Made it much easier not having to export footage from a camera to a computer etc.

As well as the technical side, start planning the shots you want as well, what shots will best get across the message your trying to convey or produce that wow factor. Very simply after the wide establishing shot what part of the routine would needs a close ups. Then you can be creative as well, possibly attach the camera if small enough to the player. If you plan the shots properly editing will be a breeze, if you are not comfortable visualizing the shots you want before hand, then overshoot a by a lot, will make the edit much more time consuming but will ensure you have loads to choose from. The biggest mistakes armatures make is to not pay enough attention to sound, and good sound is at least as important as good visuals possibly more so.
