Football Trivia Question of the Day

Looking at the results that day I'm guessing (although unique isn't the word I'd use) that it's the most goals scored in a single day of top flight English league football.

Arsenal were getting Boxing Day off even then?

Friday 4th January 2013:

Which current Football League club was the first to reach an FA Cup Semi-Final?

The early cups were dominated by teams like Wanderers, Engineers, various schools and universities, but I assume one of the older clubs got the semis well before the Football League started so possibly (Sheffield) Wednesday or Notts County. I think Blackburn Rovers were the first of the current league teams to win it.

You're right about Blackburn being the first current League club to win the FA Cup (the youngsters who played for Spurs at the time were at the match and decided to adopt their colours in tribute) but you haven't named the first current League club to reach the Semi-Finals.

Friday's answer: Nottingham Forest were the first current Football League club to reach an FA Cup Semi-Final in season 1878-79.

Blackburn Rovers were the first current Football League club to reach an FA Cup Final in season 1881-82 and also the first club to win an FA Cup Final in 1883-84.
