FIFA: Destroying Football Since 1904

2030 World Cup to be played in Spain, Portugal and Morocco and three matches in South America to celebrate the centenary.

Having covered three continents with this one and North America with 2026, bidding for 2034 is only open to Asia and Oceania, which obviously means brown envelopes from Saudi.

What a stitch up.

Saudi Arabia have announced they will bid and FIFA have given Australia 25 days to lodge a bid and president of the Asian federation say they are completely behind the Saudi bid.

It's worth quoting the opening post in this thread

According to Norwegian media, FIFAs Jerome Valcke confirmed this today.
He's quoted saying the World cup will probably be held between 15. November and 15. January.

What perfection.

All those in favour of 2 weeks holiday under the pretense of work, all expenses and desires paid for, every year, say 'aye'

48 teams though. You are going to get some poornations competing. Can they even afford to send their squads year on year? Unless qatar have agreed to put them and their squads up in hotels for free. Give them training pitches to use etc...

They might well have done thinking it will attract tourists. Dunno.

I like youth football and try to watch the tournaments but the crowds for them are poor unless home team is playing, even then stadiums are half empty.

Fifa permitted a member of its ruling council to join a summit via video link despite him being in prison accused of embezzlement.

Other members of the 37-strong Fifa Council in Bangkok were surprised to see Mamatou Touré, a senior figure in African football and the head of the Mali football association Femafoot, joining the meeting on Wednesday remotely. He is in jail in Bamako, the country’s capital, awaiting trial on charges of embezzling public funds.

It is understood that Fifa were told Touré was making the video call from a clinic and not a prison cell.

Touré, 66, was indicted in August by the Malian government for “attacking public property as well as forgery and use of forgery and complicity”. He has denied the allegations and in September was re-elected as the president of the Mali FA by 61 votes to one — he was the only candidate.

The Guardian reported in September that the Fifa president, Gianni Infantino, wrote to Touré to congratulate him on his re-election, thanking him for “all your efforts, your work and your important contribution to the development of our sport and the promotion of its values in Mali, Africa and in the world”. It was later described as a “standard letter of congratulation”.

Fifa might be about to get their wings clipped.

Going to be interesting to see the outcome. Could massively effect international football. Also club football to a lesser extent. Are clubs required to release players for international games? Will players get guaranteed breaks during the year? Will the club world cup be scrapped?

Its been coming ey, I think players do really well getting what they get moneywise but I also think there healthcare/welfare is overlooked. There was talk of an independent body coming in to look at it

Set up by whom though? Who would pay for it?

Think what they need is a proper universal calendar agreed by clubs, players and fifa/uefa/leagues. Can see things like the afcon suffering and being forced to play every 4 years.

Well there is talk of a regulator coming in appointed by government no? Sure I saw Labour want to push it forward. I think Woking collaboratively on welfare with other bodies would be a wise move personally. Obviously I can thrash out an entire trouble free plan on here haha, but it's something I've thought about for a while.

Yeah but that would have no control over fifa or international football. Not sure what the domestic regulator could do to limit the amount of games played. Unless they cut the prem to 18 teams or scrapped the league cup.

Also it was shelved due to the election. Although labour has said they want one.

Maybe it would be like lorry drivers, can only work for X hours on the tacho thingy, else they have to stop, even if they are a mile from the yard.
Players could be allowed a maximum X minutes per month for club and Y for country.

I actually feel that we are on a slow path to having a different team in each 45 minutes, it would clean things right up i.e. only play for 45 minutes, never get in the red zone, favours all the big clubs, don't need loads of subs.

It's what has happened in Rugby Union, a lot of the games turn to crap once all the "finishers" come on.

Well yeh but I think there is some ground that could be met where even from the point of view that player care is consistent. You can have players who are coerced into taking injections for injuries, there were rumours Chelsea players were scared to say no under Jose so I do think there should be a layer of welfare thats taken into account and football bodies are too close to football for it to be objective.

That's fair enough. But the court case will be more about games played and how much power fifa actually has. Will clubs even be obliged to release players for international competitions? Will they have to participate in the club world cup? Will players be guaranteed breaks between games etc.. this case could be massive for the sport.

We've already seen uefa lose their case blocking clubs from forming their own competitions. Although the clubs seem to have shelved that idea for now.

Yeh for sure, I was thinking aloud on here haha.

I agree BTW
