Emerson Royal

He seems comfortable on the ball in defensive positions. He defends well and is defensively aware. He won’t be first choice but he’s a great player to have in our squad. He has developed his game and it shows.
 
I've never been as down as others have been on Royal when he was the spacegoat of choice, but literally wtf?

This guy, has put in a shift at LB, RB, CB with some of his best performances in the shirt being out of position. How the fudge is this guy putting in a better performance at CB than Dier, Sanchez, Tanganga, Rodon managed for years?

Really good again last night, couple of nice clean up runs to cover danger (something the full back line is getting better at), and is getting more comfortable with being pressed, and having the ball in tight spaces ..

I think it's an inbuilt prejudice because he's Brazilian but doesn't have the stereotypical "Brazilian skills." So the complaints have more so been about what he isn't rather than what he actually is.

He's always been a very good defender, at RB, LB and now at CB. The fullback position are obviously more of a strength and he suits them better, but fundementally he is just a defensively sound player, great in 1 on 1 defending situations and good overall defensive nous.

He's a great utility to have and someone who should deffo be keeping as his attitude is great, his willingness to learn and improve is commendable and he's fudging good player.

He is putting in those performances because he hasn’t had the brain farts
He can defend for sure
His comparative weakness has always been with the ball. It is what it is on that front

Emersen talked about it the other day. Said one day he'd like to play for flemengo but is very happy at the moment and enjoying his new role.

See if they want spence.
 
32-40m seems decent. Great defender. Not much good going forward, which means he’s untimely limited in a Postecoglou side.

Limited in an Ange side? He can defend, has a bit of pace about him, can play anywhere across the back line and doesn't get injured. And he might not be as good as Porto going forward but he's not bad at all. If we are in Europe next season he will be used plenty, whether there are injuries or not....

I agree, but if we are getting in a another CB I can see him being sold to fund a more forward thinking RB.

He's one of the players with value we can sell and get one more suited to the Ange system.
