Eberechi Eze

This Eze situation is NOT, IMO, an 'either or' moment.

Of course it's sensible to move on, especially to deals we've been negotiatiing for the last two weeks. It's also absolutely reasonable to ask WHY we did not close this deal when it was virtually closed at the start of the week. It has nothing to do with 'biases against chairmen' or any of that, it is about looking at our history and measuring what that tells us. How many times has this happened? Ask yourself that.
We could've closed this deal, yet the club believed they had time (again, to be clear, I did NOT say David Ornstein dictates our transfer policy, that would be macaronic). However, Ornstein is fed information that has already been in the 'bubble' of these things for a little bit and which parties are happy to circulate. IF we were never really interested in Eze, then we should never have allowed it to get so public. Whichever way you slice it, we have once again played our hand poorly...

...the fact it might well turn out to be better for us in terms of what Frank wants on the pitch are true. It is also true that optically we look bad. And it is also true that when it comes to 'key deals' we have previous and then some more previous.

I actually think getting Kudus done was miraculous; that's the one I was really worried wouldn't happen.

if Eze was dragging his feet, what more could we do?

if he really would rather play for them, thank deity it didn't go through, would have been a massive waste of money on a player who wasn't really bought into the club

That's your opinion garnered from the internet mate . Which has proved to be so very correct recently.. you have no first hand knowledge of either contract so it's just speculation based on the reporting of others (who also likely had no first hand knowledge of the contracts.. just what they have been fed (or made up) or both .

Got it.
Feel absolutely free to ignore me and my comments amigo (I'd warn against assumptions though). Peace and love. Hope that felt good for you to express :kissingheart:

i guess at least a significant part was Eze holding out for this exact scenario.

probably tipped the wink from that lot, that now the fee benchmark had been set they'd come in, match it, and he could opt for them.

oh well, shame. would have been a real Spurs player I think.

Firstly, happy birthday Bedford. Hope the Eze meltdown isn't impacting the b'day drinks too much?

My take on it is that when we started the summer I was thinking Eze would end up at Gooners. He is a lifelong fan and the time is right for him to go and operate at the next level. I was pleasantly surprised our primary target was MGW and feel more gutted he didn't join us. It's not as if we didn't send the message to Eze that he wasn't our first choice. We absolutely did.

So my view on this window is that we haven't changed the club's culture on how to manage transfer windows. We've bought a seemingly great player in Kudus, and we've opted for another young centre half in Takai. Everything else we've achieved in the summer including Sonny is pretty much table stakes business including the Tel/Danso conversions and the Palhinha loan.

I would say we have 50% of our business (including outgoings) to do in the last 10 days. This is very normal under this regime unfortunately.

Palace has a say in when it gets closed
As does the player
It’s always at least 3 main parties in a transfer
Palace have been clear that by Friday last weeks it’s release clause
We know that because that was consistently reported even by the toilet press
Beyond that and since it’s been a lot of mixed messages and some speculation.
I believe we had agreed a fee and terms
And I’m assuming his agent (as is his job) advised other interested parties
It happens
Personally, as I’ve said before, he is exactly what they need but I’d also be saying to him, which club really wants you and will give you the chance you want
If he believes that is arsenal still that’s his call and we move on

I have to say I don't believe it.
It was a weird report from a Saudi Sportswashing Machine journalist (northern correspondent) I believe
And it was him because it aligns with us getting wissa … which again I just don’t believe
Weird one and very much in the realms of make believe
Kind of deal they do in Italy

I’m not sure that a 23 year old unproven at PL level would be a like-for-like alternative to someone who has shown himself to be a top player in that league, and is an established and experienced international.
Could be. That's why clubs do scouting and research. And it we kind of have to hope for that sort of thing now

Ha enjoy taking your ball home buddy

YOU asked me a question. I answered it in good faith. You chose to denigrate the answer. Don't ask me to pass if you don't want the ball 😍 ...better still, don't denigrate the pass you receive, perhaps appreciate the faith with which it was played! Enjoy amigo, none of this is really vital is it...

I didn't denigrate you or your answer whatsoever bud .. I'm just stating what I believe are the very likely facts . None of us know really what's going on do we . Can we virtually hug and make up now . We all suffer the pain called Tottenham together and need no further conflict perceived or real in our life's ... I will even show you my spurs tattoo ?

Weirdest things I’ve read today is BLUECO buying a player form Brighton to go to Strasbourg for one year then Chelsea.
the way it’s been reported is like it’s normal FFS
They do mention the clubs but the key words being used by ornstein and the Italian knob is BlueCo… that’s fudging weird, right?

We forced our own hand on Eze, let's be clear. MGW? That was a massive fudge up and the agent/agency who wrote that clause is in the Charlie Kane realm of agency. Silliness.
For me it was clear he was always going to Arsenal and if the reporting is correct that Arsenal have casually waited for us to negotiate the fee with Palace and then just whacked in *just slightly better* across all aspects of the deal, we've had our pants pulled down by them convincing us to seriously expend our energy on this.
