Outrageous that this wasn’t a red card.
"Challenge" with Delap?
You mean, while Djed had his eyes on the ball, Delap watched him and lined up his arm to head height and drove it towards Spence giving him little/no time to avoid it?

I was more annoyed about that then the pen to be honest. Ref was looking right at it and blew quickly so he saw it. How on earth that isn't "dangerous play" is beyond me. Was a red all day.

Surprised.

Great for him.
Good explanation from Tuchel
"First of all, he was excellent in every single match he played for us. He suffers from the third change of coach at his club. Since then, he doesn’t get a lot of minutes. Of course, he suffers from the situation. He is part of the situation as well at Tottenham.
He brings somethings to the group that we don’t have in his profile. He loves defending. He is the fastest player in our squad and he loves to defend in one on ones. That is just the characteristic that I would say makes him stand out. He’s a full-back first and a bit of a special full-back for us as well. On top of that, he can play both sides.
We had this discussion, to be very open to you, before the March camp, with Djed. We said ‘we’re a bit concerned at Tottenham what is going on, you don’t have the minutes, you don’t have the impact we want to see from you. If you come here in March, we want to see you prove yourself again’, which he honestly did. Both of our full-backs, Tino and Djed, were just excellent against Uruguay.
That was basically the decision, I can trust him and he adds something to our group which makes him unique."

Spence looks good against brick teams. So he’s seen him play Slovakia etc and he’s looked good. But if he’s on the pitch against a France, Brazil. Back post goal and he’s not tracked the runner. He is a good one on one defender but his positioning is abysmal and he’s at fault for a lot of the goals we concede.

Whilst out of potion on the left. If we see him playing a significant amount of minutes in the right and he still falls foul of the same problems then we can really judge. As it stands we really only ever see him on the wrong side, so we do have to caveat those performances.

Sums him up for me as well.

Playing left or right shouldn’t impact his ability to mark a man in the box which has cost us time and time again.

I do actually agree but there often intangibles and not being in the correct space that learnt to play your role in might well be affecting his positional and defensive sense.

I'll be the first to criticise him if he's playing on the right and make those kind of mistakes and or poor decisions.

He’s played more at LB than RB the last 2 seasons. So at this point he should be used to it.

Tough to criticize him for something he hasn't yet done.

He's always handled the best wingers he has faced. I would love to see how he fares against the likes of Olise, Vini Jr etc.

Well done Djed 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

I believe you.
