Cristian Romero

Did Ange miss manage him also? The only season he had that matched his ability was the first season he had under Conte.

Romero was Ange's skipper during a massive injury crisis which resulted in us winning our first European trophy for 41 years. Several stellar games in the later rounds.
So no.
You can debate whether the manager mismanaged our defensive strategies if you like, but this player? No. BTW, he got 3 yellows in the Prem and 2 in the EL plus NO reds in Ange's last season. Speaks for itself.

None of it is true.

Ange managed the EL team, he was the manager so that's precisely what he did. He also asked his senior players to actually step up and play for the club/team.

VDV and Romero went to the manager and told him that we couldn't carry on playing the way we were if we wanted to win - of course Ange was the manager, he obviously wasn't removed from his position for these games but the 180 on style was player led and is what Mikey is getting at

Not what the article, or VDV, said.

Nor what the context suggests - manager who continually plays a high line come what may suddenly changes style after nearly two seasons. .. 🤔

Anyway, I had promised myself not to get drawn in on Ange again. 😀

Mickey is wrong

I think the missing nuance there is trust. Trusting it could be done, trusting it would be done, knowing that ther senior players would make sure it would be done on the pitch if the tactic were to be fully deployed. Management.

Except he didn’t continually play a high line. Only people who didn’t actually watch us (or perhaps don’t really understand football) would think that.

Yeah sure it can be framed that way i 100% agree - Not many managers would have accepted being told to play the complete opposite way to how they wanted to by their players- but Ange did and to his credit
