By that logic I guess that would mean all of Emiliano Martínez, Nicolás Tagliafico, Rodrigo De Paul, Enzo Fernández, Alexis Mac Alliste and Julián Álvarez are all world class, which if you do fair enough but thats not how I would classify them all.

Being a bit good and World Class aren't the same thing for me tbh. I think he's good, very good on his day but he wouldn't quite hit the world class level imo unless it's a relative value rather than an actual standard.

Yeah on his day Romero is world class, but to be truly classed as that you need consistency. Romero been lacking in that for us and his best days are many matches apart.

Randal Kolo Muani also played in a World Cup final. Paul Pogba starred in another final. I don’t think anyone would call either world class.

Discussion for a different day but Pogba could easily be described as world class in my opinion. Think he could arguably be one of the most talented footballers to ever play in the prem, could do everything. Never lived up to it a NBd delivered though.

Get your point about Muani though

Pogba most definitely is not/was not world class. He is exactly the same type of example as Romero, a player who on his day could put in a top class performance but didn't do it often enough.

Kane is perfect example of someone who is world class, putting in top performance after top performance season after season. Romero doesn't even come close to achieving that - he's just one of many players with a high ceiling who all too often doesn't reach that ceiling....
 
Romero won three of the highest International honours, I think we can separate him from silly examples of people who once played in a final to tear him down further.

You don't represent your country to 3 major honours and another final in 4 attempts without being very good

He was also an instrumental part of winning the EL, for all his faults I will hold him in high esteem for that given the importance of winning honours, in the same way I have no interest in pulling down the likes of Tony Parks

Kane is world class but Romero has turned up and performed in the biggest games and proven one of the biggest qualities you need to have the term "world class" used about you. Kane hasn't ticked this box unfortunately on a fair few occasions.

What would be interesting is putting together a best eleven. It's a Kane vs Haaland two way fight in my opinion for number 9. For the centre half slots, it would be a much broader debate with 7 or 8 players considered. Romero would definitely be one of them for me.

England had similar paths in prior tournaments under Southgate but still slipped up in the Croatia and France games. Argentina made their finals and won one of them. We're still happy to call our captain world class though.

I don't think you can really use the opposition as a gauge for the world class tag. It is what it is, and you beat who is in front of you right?
