Cristian Romero

Not sure how a DM keeps him fit to play for us or means that he actually marks his man and doesn’t walk off
But that doesn’t take away the need for a DM of course

His injury record is not what i was talking about, its the moans that he [ and the rest of the defense] get for mistakes when opposing players have far too much room due to our CM being porus.

That can be an issue
But doesn’r excuse the majority of his errors last season
They were invariably him switching off or just leaving his man to someone else

I know you have been of that opinon all season, however i put a lot of ALL our defenders openess down to our weakness through CM. We shall see what happens if we do obtain a DM.

I’d agree if it was openness
But walking away from the CF is him absconding his role (think lestah, Brighton twice and others)
Him having the ball and falling/stumbing under no pressure (like wolves away)
They are not because we are open

And having full backs playing as inverted wingers

Tactics that leave 50% of your defenders up field and doesn't look to compensate in CM = hot sword through melted butter.

A dedication DM would be nice, but a half decent tactic will go a loooonnggg way to improvement

The system we played had something to do with it.

Also all the mid need to do their part. Not sure i want 1 pure defensive mid. Would like a roy keane/viera who can do that but can also attack. Along with a carrick who could intercept then ping.

The system had nothing to do with his individual errors
When he did the same thing for Argentina is that the system … no
It’s a player making a mistake
Mistake happen but his have recurring themes
1 - literally leaving his man and expecting someone else to pick up his man
2 - thinking he has loads of time on the ball when he hasn’t
They are all on him
We should recognise players strengths but also see their issues even as fans

And FBs who don't track runners at set play along with others who are back to do a job that don't. Johnson terrible for it. It all contributes to uncertainty and confusion on who to pick up. Not saying Romero wasn't at fault at times, he was, but there was a collective defensive failure last season

With the ball, I've literally seen every CB and GK make the same mistakes for sides that insist on playing out from the back without compromise.....Saliva who is considered thr best CB bar VVD was dreadful in the run in last season where Romero actually got massively stronger post injury

But a DM would have no impact on his mistakes
His errors are nothing to do with pressure or numbers
Keane kr Viera would still expect their cb to mark his man or even more so, not fall over or give the balls away easily

Fair enough. But if the cb is less exposed there would be fewer mistakes.

He's clearly an elite defender entering his prime and a serial winner. So I can't help but wonder why the only club interested is Atleti. PSG is going for Zabarnyi, Bayern went for Tah, Real took Huijsen (understandable given he's young and was cheaper), there's no interest from Italy and that's pretty much it. Not even Saudi, not that he'd ever go there.

From what I can gather our fans along with his Argentinian team mate rate him higher than everyone else
Neutrals still think he is a red card every game

Italian clubs couldn't afford him.

Because there is no money bar the PL and the historical great sides are generally both crap and skint.....Ala AC Milan and Co.
