Finally got underway today. Being played in the USA.

Argentina beat Canada. Romero played the whole match, Lo Celso came on as a sub. Looking at their squad they're getting old. Half of them are over 30.

I’d still say they are favourites. They have some quality players and Messi whilst not being at the peak of his powers anymore is still capable of dragging them to the final. Not to mention they have won the last two tournaments they’ve entered and know how to win.

He said Le Celso got him tickets, nice way to spend the summer. I wouldn't mind doing a few games sometime.

Did you see the US shot themselves in the foot against Panama last night!? Weah got sent off for lashing out early on and pretty much ruined their chance of getting through (Unless Uruguay rest people against them in the final game)

No it was not. He cranked him a stiff one on the back of his head. Absolute idiot. And the Yanks got what they deserved.

Even more ironically, once Uruguay pulls their pants down and they are eliminated, there will be an immediate outcry to replace the manager, Greg Berhalter. The logical choice would have been Jesse Marsch.

But Canada pulled a fast one and hired him as manager for the next few years. So the highly overrated Yanks are basically fcuked going into the 2026 World Cup that they are largely hosting. Couldn't happen to a better bunch of pompous tossers.

That said, Canada need to eke out nothing more than a draw against Chile to take second place in their group behind Argentina. A nervous night for those of us norf of the border.

Very satisfying to see Alexis Sanchez effin' and jeffin' about the reffin'. Chile went down to 10 men in the 27th min when an outclassed defender committed his 2nd yellow card offense against Canada's pacy RB, Richie Laryea. Prior to that, the Chileans were all aggression and chippiness, so they got what they deserved, mistakenly thinking they could bully Canada off the pitch. Obviously didn't watch Canada nicely handle the thugs of Peru in a prior match. With Argentina beating Peru 2-0 (no Messi, no slaughter), a scorelles draw put Canada through to the quarter finals, likely against Venezuela.

With the US, Mexico and Jamaica either eliminated or likely to be, only Canada and, maybe, Costa Rica will go through to the knockouts from the Concacaf invitees. In with a shout against Venezuela. Winner of that plays Argentina and books summer tee times.

Sounds like Canada got the worse end of the deal there!

Ahh. A chirp from the Book of Bob Bradley.

Marsch is doing OK. Five games so far and two expected defeats against Argentina and Netherlands. Clean sheets in a win over Peru and draws with Chile and France. Made Alphonso Davies captain and has created a playing style that emphasizes speed and freedom of play. Put two young debutants in as CBs and a new GK. All in all, Canada look very promising for their co-host role in 2026 World Cup.

Crazy 0-0 between Mexico and Ecuador and Mexico are out!

Gotta be thankful for VAR in this one. Referee gave a 98th minute penalty to Mexico that in real time might have been reasonable, but replays clearly showed it was a great tackle. I hate VAR but the alternative might have been worse in this case.

Wonder if El Tri fans will greet them on their return the way they greet rival players as they arrive on the pitch - chucking plastic bags of urine.

Well, hasta la vista, gringos. The Yanks are out in a wave of shame and disgrace. Outfought and outthought by Uruguay's B team. Went splat! And your birds are fat.

Oh, you should have heard the bitching and kvetching and whining and whinging and moaning and howling and wailing and gnashing of teeth and pounding of tiny fists and stamping of tiny feet on FOX Sports 1 tried to overturn the Uruguay goal with a perpetual tantrum. Beau 'Boo Hoo' Dury on the Guardian was equally hilarious on his MBM updates, spouting nonsense about the offside lines as shown from VAR.

The primary camera angle lined up with and looked directly down the goal line. So any play happening at the top of the penalty area - or thereabouts - would have skewed angles. So, in the replays we were shown, goal-scorer Olivera might have appeared offside, but VAR officials have the benefit of proper graphic software to get the lines right. A tight call to be sure, but the right one. Well, from a Canadian perspective.

Christian Pulisic was given the proper treatment by anyone looking to beat the US - hammer him physically. Then, he gets upset, his brain fries and tries to do too much on his own and becomes a parody of himself.

Two years out from the World Cup they will be primarily hosting, the US will be firing their inept coach, Greg Berhalter, and starting over again with a new head coach and a bunch of angry, exasperated and dis-connected players.

Wow you really don't like the Yanks. A side from that do you know if Murdoch Mysteries series has finished, my missus never misses an episode and she thinks it has after watching the last one.

Make no mistake. I have the greatest respect and admiration for the many Americans I have gotten to know and work with over four decades in my business. There have been so many good people I have met, and continue to meet, in my journeys down south, both actual and virtual.

But when it comes to US Soccer, there is a pomposity and sense of entitlement from their American media that makes it impossible to enjoy or even respect much of what is presented to us. I have never been able to stomach the claptrap spouted by FOX Sports in their soccer coverage. ESPN has only been marginally better. And the ridiculous rubbish we were fed from the Copa America is among the worst of all time. You can't help but love it when they get their overdue comeuppance.

Of course, we have a number of Brits doing absolutely superb work for NBC in presenting the Premier League. Host Rebecca Lowe, Robbies Earle and Mustoe are all top notch. For fun, they also have the hilarious Men In Blazers backed by NBC's Pearooster service. Fantastic fun each week. If only those standards existed around their national team rights holders, life would be good.

Argentina scrape by Ecuador on pens. They should get to the final as they play Venezuela or Canada in the next round. Uruguay v Brazil should be interesting. Uruguay will win that IMO especially with Vini Jr suspended.

Colombia has been very good in this tournament and should be tough for Uruguay to beat. All depends on the ref. If Uruguay continue to get away with being thugs, they'll win. If the ref takes a firm approach Colombia have skill to win.

Argentina should beat Canada, who have had a nice run under Jesse Marsch. Lots of interest in their players. Jonathan David being courted by multiple big clubs (doubt we'll go for him now after Danishfurniturelover issued a snippy dismissal of him). Ismael Kone moving from Watford to Marseille. Interest building in GK Maxime Crepeau. If they don't beat Argentina, they still get another game - for 3rd place - to showcase their young talent. All in all, a great bit of preparation for co-hosting the next World Cup.
