i think his general point is that denigrating cup runs based on how someone values the opposition during a run is somewhat asinine. I mean, really? What's the point? You can only beat who you play, and no cup run is rich wioth top level talent. In fact, the group stages of the CL are often comprised largely of 'Europa' and less standard clubs.

I think some people are just anchored in negativity and cannot allow themselves a little bit of hope and joy. A shame.

It’s not really devaluing the cup run though is it. It’s comparing the merits of two managers based on their performances.
In that respect the job Glasner has done is superior to Ange.

I have to ask, why would we compare the two? I genuinely don't understand why people would go there for that comparison...

Glasner has done a very good job all-told. I think the circumstances he walked into with Palace -the expectations versus what was already in place set-up wise versus injuries versus style of play- are all contextual factors in the good job he's done. He also enjoyed that vital slice of luck on Saturday which every manager needs in Finals. His keeper remained on the pitch when he should've been sent-off (not that I was complaining LOL). On paper -stats and all that- it is impossible to argue that Glasner has not done a better job than Ange. What I would say is the job Glasner had to do versus the job Ange was given on arrival are two very different beasts.

I can't envisage any other clubs fans who haven't won a trophy for over 15 years having this conversation about a major European trophy but Spurs fans? Of course they will, and this is why almost any manager who comes here will be destined to fail....

Glasner has done a very good job all-told. I don’t hate Ange, I really wanted him to be a massive success here, I love his story and his background, his relationship with his father I see echos of my own in. His southern Mediterranean immigrant background, and the accompanying work ethic, even links to Australia. And then those first 10 games wow… and even the Chelsea game.

I think only one man on this board wanted him to succeed more than I did at that point. But I kept the faith all the way to the Leicester game… but that game brought it home to me that he is not good enough at this level, he just isn’t, it’s been said before that we a very lucky that 3 teams below us are so bad because if they weren’t we were in a very real danger of being relegated.

But no you say, we would have then shifted focus to the league and played better… I have seen no evidence of us being able to play better, not since he has been figured out anyway.

So unless Ange is a complete tactical genius and has been playing Rope a dope this whole time playing is such a limp way in the league to null cup opposition in to a false sense of security and we go on to beat Utd comfortably. his tenure here has been very nearly disastrous, and by any measure a failure.

It's certainly an opinion. I have my own (which will surprise some people I feel). I think my enduring point at this specific moment in time is why this particular conversation is actually being had?

I mean, are people genuinely afraid that no-one will talk about our Premiership season ever again if/when we win on Wed? It certainly seems that way.

It’s being had now steff because we lost yet another game in the league. There is no way this team should be this poor if the manager was competent at this level.

Little bit of context: Ajax experienced its worst-ever season last year, finishing fifth after languishing in mid-table. Farioli came in last summer from Nice, stabilized them, turned them into contenders again (which given their budget is what you would expect, but their crop of players is fairly poor), made them hard to beat by being very defensive-minded. Kept rotating and rotating, used as many as 37 players, and never played the same team twice in succession. They nearly won the Dutch title, should have really after having been nine points ahead with six games or so to go, and did all right in the Europa League - beating Union St Gillis in the knock-outs before losing rather emphatically to Frankfurt. More interesting as a person than as a manager. Very young, 36, a graduate student in philosophy, and a genuinely nice guy or so it seemed on tv. Not sure about how good he really is as a manager though. Would steer clear.

Unclear. Just got announced. Could have something to do with different visions of what next season should look like, but that's only a guess.

It's clearly the situation regarding the league form and the question mark over the managers position in light of a potential cup win that is driving the conversation and I think pretty much any clubs fanbase would be having similar debates in those circumstances.i don't think there's anything unique with our fanbase that means we'd be an exception here.

I honestly think the way the world operates now is driving a lot of this. I don't recall in 1991 anyone giving me brick about Spurs very poor league position (think we finished 10th and won only 3 of our last 24 league games). Now, people are bombarded with wall to wall TV coverage of the world and its mother devaluing the Europa League, I've had variations of the same WhatsApp text half a dozen times already under the caption "EL final" (a video of two Sunday league teams who can't kick the ball out of their way) while social media is full of rival fans taking the tinkle.

All of that messaging has an effect. I can sense a shift in the "trophyless bottler" tag to Woolwich. If we win on Wednesday, that will become more prevalent. Of course people will look to diminish us winning something but I do think Ange is right and it'll help change the narrative around the club.

If we lose...we'll be the butt of every joke for a while yet.

See that Ten Hag is being touted for a return to Ajax, considering what a flop he was in EPL after dominating Eredivise it would seem a poor decision to hire someone who cannot even win a trophy at Ajax.
