Cody Gakpo

Not sure, unlikely I guess? They’d have been focused on the guys winning them the title like Diaz, Salah, TAA, VVD, etc. Rather than focusing on any negatives.

They seem to be calling him it now though, the fans I know, not sure when it started.
The year he got 10 goals and 4 assist in the league
I’d argue the goals he scored were quite key to them winning the title
But then I’m not a pool fan
I’m also not convinced they want to sell him

I think he's like a lot of recent Dutch players, they have big reputations but don't have the expected impact when they get the major transfer. I've not seen enough of him to make a serious assessment of him, but I don't know where he would fit in with us.

He mainly plays on the left for Pool so there's a fairly obvious space for him there. Before he joined Liverpool he mainly played through the centre iirc. Now whether he's the star of player we should go for is debatable, I'd rather have more of a tricky pseudo creator than a wide striker which is what I see him as more. Ideally a combination of the two types would be great but without adding some creativity to the midfield I think such a focused wide striker isn't the best for us.

I thought he was excellent in the 24/25 season and showed real signs of kicking on into becoming a real world-class player.

However, I would be careful in judging anyone from ‘Pool or us based solely on last season’s performances.

He’s an upgrade on Tel, along with being able to fill in at CF, but there is better out there.

Who is the better that would come to us and who we could afford?

“Better” depends on what qualities you are looking for in a winger.

I have no clue in who would be willing to join us, as I guess no one on this board does either.

But Savinho is an alternative option judging by news reports. If RDZ is looking for a more traditional winger.
