Clarke Carlisle

Clarke Carlisle: ‘I stepped in front of a lorry because I wanted to die’

http://gu.com/p/45gd3

Blimey! I hope that he makes a swift recovery and gets the help and support that he needs.

Always sad when you hear stories from people that tried to commit suicide but come out the other side...

It was pretty strange how obvious it was that he stepped out in front of a lorry, yet they tried to almost hide it or something for so long. Hopefully he's had a lot of support and find a way to bounce back and find the will to want to live life again.

I didn't realise he had financial problems and lost his punditry job. You always think of footballers being set up for life.. even mainly Championship ones, I guess there are lots of players that make bad investments etc. and get to their 30s and start to worry about the future.

I have never liked the guy just something about him, but I wish him well in his recovery. The wife has worked in this field and seen lots of people who thought they could not continue get better and live normal lifes. So the is a future for him.

We are in a culture where airing personal information in public forums is commonplace. Mental illness is a terrible (oft misunderstood) affliction. The despair that leads someone to jump in front of a lorry precludes a consideration for the driver. IT demonstrates the depths to which a person has sunk. Ralf Little has changed areas of this discussion now, saying things best left off the internet.

have no sympathy or respect for anyone who does what Carlisle did considering he has a family and all that goes with that but I've heard of so many stories of pro athletes shocked the day when they can no longer play and the money stops rolling in,they realize they have no other discernable skills and don't know what they're going to do for the erst of their lives or at the very least, live the lifestyle they were accustomed to.
