Best film of the 80s

Raging Bull
Nightmare on Elm Street
The Naked Gun
The Karate Kid
Good Morning Vietnam
The Breakfast Club

Just skimming through my IMDB ratings that I would consider above average:

Predator
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Batman
Escape From New York
The Thing
Big Trouble in Little China
Red Dawn
Willow
Driving Miss Daisy
The Abyss
Lethal Weapon I and II
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Down
The Evil Dead
Evil Dead II
The Running Man
Southern Comfort
They Live
Star Trek II The Wrath Of Khan
Return of the Jedi
Commando
Cocoon
Young Guns
Kickboxer
The Fly
Mad Max II
Bad Taste
Road House
National Lampoon's Vacation, European Vacation and Christmas Vacation
Romancing the Stone
Spaceballs
Honey I Shrunk the Kids
Major League
Top Secret
Howard The Duck
Condorman
The Cannonball Run

Some are great movies, some are classic 80s movies and some I just really enjoyed at the time of watching (but probably wouldn't rate them all as highly if watched for the first time now).

Some brick films in that list IMO.

Some were brick back then too but we had nothing else to watch. Anyway, this is the 'best' film thread right?

Depends on whether the emphasis is on quality movies that happened to have come out in the 80s or best 80s movies.

Looking at how much crap is being spewed out these days thanks to digital cameras (and the fact that nobody seems to have the ability to write a proper script any more), things weren't really that bad back then.

There's quite a few films on there that I am fond of and loved at the time. Does anyone want to nominate any of them to make our short list of 32?

Seconding some other suggestions and picking the best from my earlier post:

Full Metal Jacket
The Shining
Platoon
Wall Street
Aliens
Star Wars movies
Indiana Jones movies, though Temple of Doom is a bit meh.
Predator
Terminator
Evil Dead
Back to the Future
Die Hard
Ghostbusters
This Is Spinal Tap
Airplane
The Naked Gun
Karate Kid
Big Trouble In Little China
Escape From New York
Bad Taste
Mad Max 2
Road House
Lethal Weapon
Southern Comfort
Spaceballs

Are we going to limit ourselves to one film from a franchise or allow multiples?

Raiders is obviously better than Temple of Doom but Alien Vs Aliens always splits people.

Aliens win since Alien came out in 79. Same with the first Mad Max.

Our current list is:

Airplane
Aliens
Back to the Future
Bad Taste
Beverly Hills Cop
Big Trouble In Little China
Blade Runner
Brewster's Millions
Die Hard
E.T
Escape From New York
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
First Blood
Full Metal Jacket
Ghostbusters
Good Morning Vietnam
Gremlins
Lethal Weapon
Mad Max 2
Nightmare on Elm Street
Platoon
Predator
Raging Bull
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Rain Man
Road House
Robocop
Scarface
Southern Comfort
Spaceballs
Stand by me
The Breakfast Club
The Empire Strikes Back
The Evil Dead
The Goonies
The Karate Kid
The Naked Gun
The Shining
The Terminator
The Untouchables
This Is Spinal Tap
Top Gun
Trading Places
Wall Street
When Harry Met Sally
Withnail and I

We need to get rid of 14 for our starting 32. What should we get rid of?

Not saying these are the best, but my favourites from the 80s would be Die Hard, Predator and The Terminator (I love all the 80s Arnie films tbh, could add Commando and The Running Man). I could happily watch any of the films said so far though.
