I don't remember saying anything about Celtic but since you raise the point about them not being expected to do anything in CL, shouldn't we flip that and say we should've expected to win EL due to the same reasons? The strongest team we faced is Frankfurt and we got embarrased by Gala and were lucky to draw with Rangers.

Can't have it both ways I'm afraid

No you didn't mention Celtic, you did did mention Celtics results against midtjyland when ange was their manager and also compared that result with another Celtic managers record in Europe.
So if that's not about Celtic who is it about?

Er, we were favourite and we won.
Don't see how that equates to having it both ways.

We won a cup, which, when we started, we were one of the favourites to win. This is the easiest of cups to win when the opposition is taken into account. The Champions League is at a completely different level and is comprised of teams that are on par with the Premiership top five and better. The current team under Ange is miles away from that level, as he has demonstrated in our league form.

I'm fed up with his 'Angeball' of panic defending, tippy tappy around both boxes a lack of shooting or the confidence to shoot (when was the last time Solanki had a shot from outside the box?), pressing from the front and leaving huge gaping holes behind, fullbacks stranded up field, Son and Solanki being sooo sloooow, they're well past it and so on.

Yes, amazing we won a cup, but this has been the most depressing season of watching my team I can remember. I don't want any more of it.

Daniel, please get rid.

There's 36 teams in the CL league stage, they're not all PL top 5 standard.
In fact I doubt more than 10 are.

I think Grealish would be horrendous for us

We need another keeper, Vicario despite the late heroics was a panic attack with gloves the rest
Why do you think that on Grealish?

Said on here a few months ago that Vicario is the Italian Pickford. Seems a decent bloke, but imagine being a defender and having him flapping around behind you. He keeps goal like he's had 10 cans of Red Bull in the 15 minutes leading up to KO.

So he was brick in the CL but that's ok because they were at a disadvantage but he's won the Europa which was expected so he's great?

If Ange believes he can win PL games next season, then he should be given the chance. But you'd want him to be pretty specific about what he would do differently (eg defending!!). What manager can we get who we KNOW will be better in the PL? Either way is a risk, but we know, and the players know, that Ange can win things....

I like Grealish but I think his hungers gone having had his fill at City, I don't like the fact he has had two dormant seasons nearly. At 29 I just think we end up with another player who gives us the dog years.

Maybe I am wrong, I just think he would be a massively wrong fit for us

Just checked as we were talking facts.

PPG in CL with Celtic

Brenda 0.73
Ange 0.33

Granted its a small sample size but I'm sure I remembered his record was worse

It's perspective isn't it.
Brendan has a bad record in Europe with every club he's been at, along with Celtic two worst results in Europe.
He went into a winning team at Celtic and had I think three, maybe four seasons there.
He did have a good run this year in fairness which may have boosted his PPG a tiny bit. Really don't like him so it's difficult to give credit 😬.
Celtic were a car crash when ange went there and he only had two seasons, he had to totally reset the team and I'm sure his early start in Europe wasn't ideal.
Ange only had two seasons, so yeah small sample size.

It's tough, I'm a glaswegian but I have no loyalty to either of the OF or Scottish football, but the football system up here is totally broken and almost all of it is the fault of the club's.
Rangers for instance have a very decent record in the EL but can't beat at Johnstone in the SPL.
That's cup football for you.

He will of course believe he can, but it's not up to him to think this.

In a normal season, no. Not at all. This hasn't been, by any stretch of imagination.
We can discuss the reasons for the injuries and who's to blame, but if anything is "sexy", that is.

Anyway

We've tried it all: we've hired the up'n'coming, we've poached other teams successful managers, we've hired the established winners, we've tried the defensive park-the-bus, we've tried the gung-ho and none of them have managed to win a major trophy. We've sacked them all, because they didn't manage to teach Tottenham to win things.

Now we finally have someone who has won something, HERE, with us.
And it is the first european trophy in 41 years in a year even Spurs-fans think has been absurdly absurd with injuries and bad luck and people want Levy to FIRE him?
Who in his right mind would take on that task now?
Ange took a bit of a gamble, by sacrificing the league form to maximize the chances of winning this trophy. The gamble Levy would have to take by getting someone else in now... well..

Who can possibly come in here now and promise both challenge in the league, _and_ keep winning stuff? Because clearly, that must be the bar for the next dude in order to stack up to the comparison. What if he bums out of Champions League, the cups and finishes 5th in the league?

Ange has done it, he has a trophy. He can (if he gets to continue) build on the young core he has collected, attract improvements where needed, and carry on into champions league and challenge in the league without an absolute neccesary win next season, and still have success.

Sacking Ange now?
Divorcing the wife day before the she wins the Euromillions, I'd call it.
Ok.

Sack him in November then and get someone else in

the cup win just confirmed my belief that we have good players but a poor manager
the ange in/out question is now tied into expectations for 25-26 premier league and champions league goals.

for me I would target CL quarter finals and CL qualification places next season. and i don't think ange is good enough
Last night shouldn't really change anything in regards to who is staying and who is going, just means those leaving go on a massive high, perfect way to move on

Whatever happens will already have been decided. It didn’t all rest on the final whistle last night.
I would not be at all surprised to see him continue into next season. We are in a rebuild which he has spoken about for the past 2 years.. And he has delivered Champions League for us. The “fly in the ointment” might be Paratici. We will know very soon.
