American politics

Florida imams:“We are building a pipeline of leaders. I want the governor of Florida to be Muslim. I want Muslims in the House, Muslim senators.”“We don’t apologize about jihad. We are not afraid of jihad. Jihad is who we are.”

They are storing up the same problems in America that we have in Europe. The "progressive" left think that it is fine I think they will be in for a massive shock. The long hard fought rights for women and the gay community will be the first to go once these extremists get a hold on power.

At least they dont wave flags though, well they do but British or American ones so its ok. Again I am guessing most on here see no issues with this sort of thing.:(

Here’s hoping right-wing Trump cements his power. He’s all about LGBTQ+ and women’s rights.

Your point was that the Republicans will step in and stop him when he does things which only benefit him. My point was that they have stood idly by while he’s used his position to make billions for himself and his family.
No, my point was that the Supreme Court will.

If he tries to alter the rules for term lengths, it will end up in front of the SC (if it gets that far) and there are 5 justices (assuming no more die any time soon) that are not pro-Trump.

Yes, line them up side by side with the US (in its current guise).
And someone from China might see it differently. We view things thru a western lense.

Also, if the US 'allow' (haha) Venezuela to have a fair and open election to re-instate some form of democracy...and then that new government/leader wants to partner with China on oil etc ....then are they going to get a 'fair do's' from the US?
Ok, so let's start with a list of the bad that doesn't apply to the US:

Dictatorship
Communists
Censorship
Funding Iran
Funding Russia

That's not even close to comprehensive but more than enough reason.

Change the second to fascists and 1,2 and 3 are America.

And America aren't funding anyone? From the Chinese side they're not happy about that.

Besides the West are funding China....without a moments thought to any of this 'badness'

And...What is the guess on Venezuela....are they free to do as they please if they get their house in order.....or is this it for them now?

Cut the hyperbole.

The US obviously isn't a dictatorship and free speech there is 100x better than in the UK, let alone China et al. None of what's happening in the US fits a standard definition of fascism, unless you're using some Instagram definition of it.

Venezuela, I suspect are free to do what they wish as long as they don't become a puppet of Russia/Iran/China again.

I think you may be living in a parallel universe.

The ramped up rhetoric around greenland is worrying
Most likely it's Trump's usual start extreme and negotiate to what you want tactics. Bit it's hard to tell with him.

Someone said you should take Trump seriously but never literally. He's not fudging around, but he's not going to attack either. He's just making what he really wants (a relatively cheap purchase) seem palatable.

With neither Greenland (despite its tiny population) or Denmark wanting a deal its hard to see where it goes.

No but you have to respect the will of the population, regardless how small it is. Otherwise the gate opens either further.
Meh. What if the UK decides it wants a Labour government but the population of, say, Chichester decides that it's people understand economics too well for that and don't want one?

How small do we break down the population before we just have to accept what the rest have chosen?

Greenland runs as a self governance with its own autonomy no? Denmark responsible for defence

Because Denmark allows it to. It's still owned by Denmark.

Of course, but by agreeing to allow them to have self governance and autonomy is a sticking point, not that Denmark has any interest in selling. There was a Danish politician on the old tele recently who said the Self Governance Act meant any decision would sit with Greenlanders, also if memory serves it would violate international law to sell the land from under them. Equally something about Greenlanders not being able to sell themselves to America unless it had gained full independence, which they don't want either.

Either way Trump is being a cnut and neither party is interested regardless of the detail

Sounds a bit like Northern Ireland.

I suspect that at some point in the fairly near future we'll have a Labour govt stupid enough to just give it away. When that happens, we might pretend to listen to the people there, but the decision will be made over their heads.
