American politics

having publicly labeled him as the president, that will surely affect how that claim plays out in court.

No doubt the guy is actually illegitimate and it would be good to get rid of him if there was genuine reg8me change but that’s not what is happening

Back to Madura they already have had to drop the drugs charge because they said that he was the head of the cartel de soles, however this a generic term for corrupt officials, not an actual cartel. you can’t make this brick up it’s lucky this trumpet regime are so incompetent because they are thoroughly evil.

He was their leader, just not legitimately.
Sure I get that but this is about legal technicalities and the need to prove their legal cease beyond reasonable doubt. Because of the trump regimes incompetence their legal case is about as water tight as a sieve.

No decent lawyer wants to work with them so they have to make do with clowns.

Actually the requirement for proof beyond reasonable doubt would be on the case against them. They're fine.

This isn't about Maduro. It's about international law. Get your head out of Trumps bits please Scara. He isn't on anyone's side.
And I'm not on Trump's side.

I disagree with most of what he does. But when he removes and dangerous and evil dictator we should celebrate it, no matter how much we think it's cool to be publicly anti-Trump.

I will if they give them a democratic election and allow the people to elect their own person and not stick an unelected American caretaker manager in.
That should certainly be that aim.

Although as seen with Afghanistan, we need to ensure the military and/or Maduro supporters don't just fill the void.

The proof is on the prosecution. In this cases that would be the UN (if it decided to do anything but it won't). The US would be the defendant.
No the US has said they are going to put Maduro on trial on America, and have indeed commenced judicial proceedings against him. The burden of proof is on the US government

Sorry, thought you were talking about the UN and international law.

Yes, that burden of proof will be on the US against Maduro. The good news is, by the time the trial is complete, he will have been replaced. So it doesn't matter if he's guilty or not, Venezuela will be better off - as will the rest of the world.

But they won’t be better off because they are leaving the regime in place minus its figurehead. And they’ll have the added “bonus” of America ripping off and stealing their natural resources. Trump has also said they will be forced to only buy US (overpriced) goods.

I'd argue (as will the US, I'm sure) that as a dictator, and not the elected leader of a country, Maduro isn't afforded the protection that political leaders are in international law.

Depends what day you catch Trump on
(Or promises you make to him)

Yep, please do - if they're quoting an actual law and not just throwing public opinions about.

Violation of sovereignty and force prohibition: The U.S. military action on Venezuelan territory and abduction of a sitting head of state is a significant violation of Article 2(4) of the UN Charter, which prohibits the use or threat of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state without UN Security Council authorization or self-defense justification
