.....sometimes (well 99% of the time) talks a load of brick!

He has criticised Ali Brownlee for helping HIS BROTHER Jonny Brownlee across the line saying that AB lacks the competitive instinct of a top competitor.

"Apparently" Triathletes should not be allowed to help each other because it "apparently" is an individual sport. Has he ever heard of drafting in a swim? (Richard Varga, currently the fastest swimmer on the tri circuit trains with the Brownlees) Has he ever heard of drafting on the bike? Has he heard of training partners or national team partners working together as a team in an event?

REALLY? Double Olympic gold medalist, and arguably the best Triathlete in the WORLD at the moment lacks the competitive instinct? Did you REALLY come out with that?

AB said he would have done the same if it was a fellow competitor, not just his brother. Yes, he probably would have. The nearest medics were after the finish line - JB was in a serious way and needed urgent medical attention - dehydration / lack of salts / lack of electrolytes can kill you. AB knew the seriousness of the position JB was in so helped him out. AB said that he has been there (and he has)- if you screw up your nutrition during an endurance race for whatever reason (it's too hot, you fail to take on enough fluids or solids)it is dangerous.

Finally, Triathlon is a sport with a real sense of cameraderie. When you do a tri, especially a long distance event (a 70.3 or an Ironman), you can be out there for hours. Your fellow competitors understand the hours and hours you put into training, building stamina, learning about nutrition, learning techniques in three different sports - there is SO much to know to help you just make it through the event. You naturally help each other. The run leg can be brutal - absolutely brutal, especially in the heat.

Yes, different Tri's are different distances and you do them at different paces - but Durham, honestly, if you don't know about a subject, shut the fudge up because you make yourself sound like a complete Danchev.

Why do people listen to him?

This.

He probably actually doesn't think that of Brownlee, but knows full well saying that will provoke huge reaction. Essentially that is his job, to get as many people to phone in on a premium cost line. A job, as much as I detest the guy, he does very successfully.
The only way to stop him, is too not phone in, or even better, not listen. I certainly dont

I've managed to avoid that stupid station for my entire life and will continue to do so.

Wise man, the thing is the idea of a station for just sport is a good idea but the muppets that work there and most of the macarons that ring in make it one to miss.

Um, he is paid to stir up emotions and say stupid things, to get idiots to phone up / listen. You do know that, right?

He just got the response from you he was after. Do not feed.

Durham is paid to voice controversial opinions given to him by his producers. H will contradict himself from day to day, and still people ring in on the premium lines to call him out on it.

I'd love his job

He's awful, listen to Alan Brazil every morning though. He's a good presenter even if the show is just him and his mates 90% of the time.
