This is the one for me. They were a great singles band.

The song was written and recorded by Jackie Edwards originally, he was black.

I think that he wrote it for the Spencer Davis Group and recorded it himself later.

He was working and songwriting for Island Records in the early to mid-60's and SDG were signed to Island.

I might be wrong actually. Spencer Davis Group definitely released it as a single first (theirs was 65 and Edwards 66) but it was on an Edwards album released in 65 and I think that came out first. He was a songwriter at Island though, so it might have been intended for SDG.

Man was a legend.

Didn't know of him as an illusionist until after he'd hung up his hat, but his work as an atheist and sceptic was excellent.
