2016/17 Season in Review

2016-17 IN NUMBERS - NEW DEFENSIVE RECORDS
Posted on 2 June 2017 - 14:15

The team set a new defensive record for the Club in 2016-17 - conceding fewer than 30 goals in a league campaign for the first time.

The total of 26 goals conceded on our way to second place in the Premier League is six better than the previous best of 32 set in the old Second Division in 1908-09 - our first in the Football League - and 1919-20.

It's also seven goals better than the previous best in a top flight campaign (the old First Division and Premier League) of 33 set in the old First Division in 1970-71.

As well as the overall goals conceded stat, the team also set a new best in terms of goals conceded at home in a league season.

Indeed, the nine goals conceded in 2016-17 represents the first time in the Club's history that we've conceded less than double-figures in a home league campaign. The previous best was 10 in the Premier League in 2008-09 and 11 in the old Second Division in 1919-20.

2016-17 IN NUMBERS - HARRY'S HAT-TRICKS
Posted on 1 June 2017 - 15:15

Harry Kane became only the third Spur to score five hat-tricks in a season in 2016-17 - and the first in 80 years.

Indeed, the previous quintuple hat-trick scorers were in the 1930s - George Hunt in 1933-34 and Johnny Morrison in 1936-37.

Harry joined that list with four trebles in the Premier League - West Brom and Stoke at the Lane, Leicester and Hull away - and one in the FA Cup at Fulham.

His final two hat-tricks in the final two games of the season at Leicester and Hull helped secure the Premier League's Golden Boot for the second-successive season.

Harry is now up to eight hat-tricks for Spurs, only the great Jimmy Greaves (15), Bobby Smith (12), George Hunt (11), Johnny Morrison (10) and Cliff Jones (10) have scored more.
