Contingency planning : we've found our guy

I don’t think it’s a straight forward correlation that winning means you’re good and not winning means you’re not. I’m troubled by this narrative if I’m honest mate. We were aiming for the biggest trophies under Poch, and the year on year progression up to his final season put us in the frame...

Contingency planning : we've found our guy

Probably because finishing high up in the league is the best sign of consistent progression. Winning a cup in isolation is superb for us as fans but doesn’t necessarily indicate progression. Ask Juande Ramos, or George Graham.

Contingency planning : we've found our guy

Or it shows you have to do both?! The clubs that win the most trophies are generally those who do well in the league too. I've said it before, different clubs won trophies this season. We were the only one of those who gave up on the league. In that sense this season was unprecedented.

Contingency planning : we've found our guy

I can't remember tbh. But he didn't last long even after those big trophy wins.

Contingency planning : we've found our guy

Chelsea didn't think "getting over the line" was enough to keep Di Matteo and, at the risk of devaluing the Europa League, he won the FA cup and Champions League in the same season..

Contingency planning : we've found our guy

We saw how that guy fared in the league last season....hence the debate over to stick or twist.

    Champions League 24/25

Interesting in Poch was our perfect fit. He may not be now but he was for sometime. Its why I love the bloke.

    Champions League 24/25

No one in Europe will beat PSG. Except Arsenal may be, because they're the best team in the tournament. Oh hang on a minute... Monday's gonna be fun...

    Champions League 24/25

In fairness to Ange, this team is likely to beat us whoever was in charge. Although I really dislike PSG as a club because of the financial doping, I am so pleased for Enrique. I imagine nothing makes up for losing a child but to pick yourself up after that and be the first manager to achieve...

    Champions League 24/25

If that happens there'll be no working from home for at least a month. And I will love giving it to the goons at work. Not that I'm petty or anything....

    Champions League 24/25

Fudge this is the most one sided final in years. I hope we give a better account of ourselves than Inter.

    Champions League 24/25

PSG winning? But I thought Arsenal were the best team in this year's tournament?

    Really looking forward to it.

Let's see mate and I genuinely hope you are right. Starting with the Uefa Super Cup. Looks like we'll be playing PSG. If he engineers a win, that will be a terrific achievement and I'll be optimistic going into the season.

Look I think we risk denigrating the UEFA cup and I love it. So I am not going to engage in that. It's a great tournament to win at any time. But the context around winning cannot be ignored mate. We hear a lot about Ange and the injuries he's had to deal with but 1) actually it's worked in...

    Ange departs

Again is that because Ange is better or because those other managers had to be competitive in the league as well as cup? When Ange said this season is unprecedented, he was right, there has never been a situation like this before. Look at all the PL teams who have won trophies this season. It's...

    Ange departs

Agreed. Although there is more evidence for the first option than for the second. As much as I love the Uefa cup win, Ange let the the league go to such an extreme extent that if you are deciding his future, you are relying on hunch and emotion over hard evidence as to his likely success next...

    Ange departs

Yes of course because we won. But it doesn't give any indication of how the team will perform going forward.

But since the knock out stages, his first teamers were back but he still didn't juggle the two effectively. It was all eggs in one basket.
