Mauricio Pochettino

Wasn't Toby one of the ones that wanted him gone?

Toby had come back from a fairly long injury in late 2016/early 2017 reportedly a little 'Tubby'. Poch told him to lose a few pounds so it's said. Toby did not take kindly to that, at which point the two were at loggerheads. Yes. He then wanted to move him on, and if you believed the rumour (note the previous is fairly well established, this next bit isn't) Poch wanted to go and get Van Dijk given we'd looked at him in 2015 when he was at Celtic and actually gone for Toby instead! They patched it up of course, but I'm not sure it was ever quite as smooth...side note, I love love love Poch and the whole era, however I think the book he put out in late 2017 was a huge mistake. I think he ruffled a couple of feathers in and out of the dressing room with that, and understand why that would be.

Never understood the book. Enjoyed reading it, but when we had such a good thing going, when our culture was our strategic advantage, anything to risk that felt needless to me.

I adored the man and all he did, but it was a massive error and I partially blame Ballague for steering him to it.
Critically, doing it meant he ceded any moral high ground when it came to behind the scenes stuff, which meant he didn't really have the clout to tell them to shove the Amazon thing.
Such a shame (at the time I tried to talk myself around but ultimately failed).

I will always love the man, and I hope he does not return.

Don't understand how anyone could enjoy reading that. It was absolute trash and horribly written. That's without going into the damage it done to relationships between Poch and the players.

I don’t disagree…especially because of the damage done. I enjoyed out of curiosity to get more of an insight into how Poch is successful. But would much rather he just didn’t let it be written if the cost was harming the relationships with the players.

Poch said fairly recently that ‘we all made mistakes’ when talking about his time at Spurs. I wonder if he was acknowledging that the book was his biggest?
