Its easy to say they’re a third rate side but they drew home and away with a motivated Dortmund (who we struggled both games with).
If you thought we weren’t good in the first half then I just think we’re looking at different things. Not sure how you can completely dominate the oppo and lead 2-0 without being good, whichever measure you are looking at?
Not for a second saying we were great by the way, it was a very professional 6/10 performance, which is good from the (for the most part) reserves.
Yeah, Im sure you can show me the stats and he made 100% of his passes, but I still prefer to use my own eyes and overall he was sloppy. Several of his passes were off, whether they made it to a teammate or not is irrelative if they're not with the precision and zip of normal. There is also more than one way to lose a ball....
Yes Im well aware of their results, they are still a third rate side. Dortmund have been extremely average this season.
How were we good in the first half? When did we have any sort of sustained pressure? We created a couple of good opportunities, but for the most part we were underwhelming. I dont ever recollect getting excited about any of our play bar the goals. In fact thinking about it Id say I was more so in the second half even when we'd downed tools for long periods. The fact you summarise it as a 6/10 means we arent even that far apart in our assessment because reserves or not that isn't a good score - 6/10 is most definitely average.....

I though Apoel played with pride and tried to make a game of it, they got forward with numbers when they could and did not resort to being over physical. It must have been a great challenge for them in this group and they did not let themselves or supporters down.

6/10 is good, 5/10 is average and anything lower is poor. You said we were poor so you think like 4/10 or worse right?
I know Dortmund aren’t great but like i said we struggled with them twice...
Pick a measurement you would like from me to show you we were good or dominated the first half?
Llorente took his goal really well. Easy to forget that this guy scored 15 league goals last season. Could still do something for us, and like against Real Madrid gives us a real weapon alongside Kane. Get the impression he will have a significant impact still somewhere down the line.

I enjoyed the game last night. Probably because it was a match of no consequence. It certainly wasnt a classic, but a good professional performance.
Apoel arent as good as us, but they are a good side - the sort that could punish complacency on our part - so for our second string to put out as comprehensive a performance as that was very pleasing.

- Foyth is clearly raw, with clearly a lot to learn - but my word he looks mature for such an inexperienced player, and his composure!
- Also, he has that Argie trait of enjoying a scrap, which I like.
- Speaking of maturity, can someone check Sanchez birth certificate? The kid plays as if he is years older than he is.
- I love Winks. Not his greatest performance, though certainly not bad, but I just enjoy watching him play so much.
- Sissoko was fine. At least, fine enough I forgot he was playing for large parts.
- Llorente was really well invovled with things, nice touches, hold up and interplay, but...
- ....He literally has one speed! "Light jogging". I dont think he has anything else in him!
- Son took the game seriously, was delighted with his application. Though I do wish he would get his head up more.
- Alli, its just not running for him. I was pleased he continued into the second half, shows character when it looked like he had an easy out. He is working, and trying, its just not happening at the minute...
- NKoudou, best Ive seen of him by far - so positive. And its notable just how many runs he made beyond the ball/into the box.
- Aurier, both sublime and ridiculous. If he can get that crazy streak in check he could be incredible.
- Great to see Walker Peters look so natural in the team. Showed up Rose as having a completely "meh" performance.
- So gutted Sterling had to wait so long to get on, poor lad! Showed lots of enthusiasm but hard to say any more.

No I said Winks was poor by his standards. We were average. We got the job done which is all I expected with a mixed team, how can you argue with that? We in no way had a sustained period of attacks like we would normally, we had a handful of decent moves at best in 90 minutes against to be polite average opposition. I’m not complaining about the performance, I’d always take a win and not care about performance when we play a weakened team.....

No one is claiming he was at his best but that comment is a travesty of what we witnessed last night. You might at least acknowledge the peach of a pass he made to Aurier that led to Llorente's goal if not the plethora of quality balls that others mostly wasted.
I can only conclude you are allowing the two or three slip-ups he did make to cloud your overall judgement.

True but that happened maybe twice from memory
Similarly you can play a peach of a pass but a player may not read it or react quick enough so your stats would be worse

Not that it affected his stats negatively but I recall at least two occasions last night when recipients of quality balls from Winks completely failed to make anything of them. Firstly towards the end of the first half he pinged a superb long aerial pass to N'koudou out in space on the left touchline but the Frenchman failed to bring it under control and was quickly dispossessed.
Then early in the second half Harry scooped another superb long aerial ball over the defence to the feet of LLorente only for the ex-Swansea striker to completely fluff his pass inside the box.
Just two examples of outcomes that may have meant Winks' creative contributions went unrecognised.

I didn’t see you say poor by Winks standards I’d just seen you say you thought Winks was poor, which is why I and probably why a few others picked up on it.
You obviously didnt read all my posts because one of the first things I did was acknowledge what a good pass that was. BUT overall I concluded he was sloppy by his standards and stand by that. Sorry to ruffle so many feathers.....
We dominated possession, we wasnt relentless in attack there's a big difference. I said Winks was sloppy in first post, then said in a subsequent post he was poor by his standards. Im not sure why some of you are getting so precious about it, its not like Im saying he's a poor player....
