Tottenham signing memories

I agree with a lot of the above posts... but one that hasn't been mentioned... my brother and I met up for a "family walk" somewhere alongside a canal... and he told me that we had signed Chris Armstrong and I tried to jump in the canal. I can't remember all the details, but I remember him holding me back. I think Armstrong had scored a goal from a very tight angle for someone like Palace or Wolves and I had proclaimed he was terrible, then we signed him and I tried to jump in the canal. Kids.

Hindsight is 20-20 vision but which of us was not excited that summer we blew the Bale money on a bunch of relative unknowns? Let's be honest most of us would have had to google the names Paulinho, Eriksen, Capoue, Chiriches, Soldado, Chadli and Lamela.

I doubt I was alone in assuming the club knew what they were doing, ha-ha!

Thank fudge at least a couple of them turned out okay.

Eriksen and Soldado in particular were fairly well know I guess. The rest less so.

I was chuffed when we signed Dembele. I could see genius in his play early doors and wanted him.

I also was delighted when we signed Jenas. I thought he was going to be the dogs knees but he never really fulfilled his true potential. Good player I guess but not as good as he could have been.

Nico Claesen. My favorite Dutch player...

Was a borderline Spurs supporter until then, but that clinched it.

I couldn't believe a team like fool'em had a silky, quality player like dembele - so, so chuffed when we did get him !

berba, was unknown to me, but boy his goals were just unworldly, ethereal

modders was a nice little pick, i hoped he lived up to the hype - boy, did he

and even a crock woody from madrid and borough - if only he coulda stayed fit, what a defender he was. Him and king were the best, and we won a cup with them - still haven't topped that in the 2000s

Signing Greavsie was massive, couldn't wait to see him play for us. He couldn't play for some weeks as we had to get some clearance, when he did play it was a midweek afternoon fixture in the Football Combination at Plymouth Argyle and they got a crowd of about 15,000 a lot above their average first team gate, then in the 1st team with a hattrick against Blackpool. We'll never sign a bigger name than him.

Twitter must have gone into meltdown with the hashtags

My father woke me up to tell me that we'd signed Klinsmann - that was a great day.
I was very excited when we got Rebrov - having seen some of his work with Shevchenko I really expected great things.

A bit more left-field, I was really chuffed when we signed Naybet.

I was even excited about signings like Fox, Sinton and Dominguez. The 90s, what a glorious disappointment of a decade that was.

I found out we'd signed Klinsmann on Teletext. I can remember it like it was yesterday.

Me too. 140 on ITV Teletext if IIRC and the top headline on that index page. Think the only other time I got really, really excited about a signing was Van der Vaart. Came out of nowhere and he just fitted the side like a glove. Fantastic player with a huge zest for the club and playing in this country. Totally embraced it and was a massive success both for the club and the league in general.

Klinsmann was huge, as with pretty much every day during the school holidays I was playing football down the local park and going to a friends (Utd fan) house to get a drink and his Mum saying we’d signed JK.

His pre-season debut vs Watford was crazy a real buzz about it.

I think we all remember where we were when the signing of the Mighty Bong(ani) Khumalo. Still can't underestimate the impact he made whilst not making an official appearance. It's around that time that the upward curve began and there's nothing coincidental about it.

There have been so many over the years ( some of those mentioned above among them), but Robbie Keane ( the first time) was a great one for me. The team were struggling for flair ( imo) and i remember i was at a biker rally and heard it on the box and was overjoyed.

Yes, good one. I remember Hoddle really bigging him up the day we signed him saying what a brilliant acquisition he would turn out to be, and so it proved.

No better sight when he was on fire.

It must've given the other players such a lift
