Danny Rose

Sorry, i was actually working off the basis that we were currently running at 55% - not 48%, so with that in mind even if we stay at our current percentage of turnover we can still increase wages by the amount previously stated.

Fair point on the recent wave of contract extensions, though I'm not sure they went up that much

Eriksen's was a hefty increase but he was on very little before. Ali, Verts, Dier and Kane have seen big increases over the last year too.

i done the (basic) maths earlier following my post regarding this table - if our revenue increases to around the 260m mark from last season (209) because of the new tv deal that would make 55% of our turnover about 30m higher than it was last season, or about £570,000 p/w - not exactly chump change and would allow us to raise (for example) 10 players wages by 57k

obviously the above is a crude working out but you get the gist

we need so so much more than an extra 57k for 10 players. just take danny rose as an example - hes probably the best lb in the league - walker is probably on 130k - and hector bellerin is on 100k

and then look at kane and lloris' salaries compared to similar players like de gea and aguero

basically our level of success over the past few years is unsustainable with our club strcuture - imo all starting to crumble now

Somehow I struggle to feel sorry for someone who earns more in a year than most people will earns in a lifetime.

Unfortunately obscene wages is the norm these days. I look forward to the day football implodes financially, and hope I will live to see it. This brick happening now is not good for anyone but the financially doped clubs and other rich clubs, who will only cement their positions at the top furter unless something is done to stop it. Wage caps, squad size limits, less agent influence - I can think of many places to start for football's governing bodies. If they want to act, which I'm sure they aren't as long as their pockets keep filling.

Depressing, really.

And what a cringeworthy clusterfudge of an interview. Extremely poor judgement by not so young Danny there. I'm undecided whether we should look to get rid or not. Fans certainly won't cut him much slack after this. And does he have the required trust from Poch and his Teammates? Selling him too to a rival would be a massive mistake and send out the completely wrong signals though.

fudge me what a mess.

It is down to EUFA to sort this. PSG bid £163m!! tonight for Mbappe. Bloody mental

I predicted all this once we made the decision to sell Walker to city.

This was brewing before then and is not connected to the sale of Walker by any more than them sharing an agent.

Also selling Walker was not a mistake. The manager wanted him gone, are you saying that we should have gone against the manager's wishes and forced him to work with a player that he did not want?

West Ham pay their players more than Juve so its a bad comparison really
Juve players must be on peanuts. Lets go get some.

I'm sure all of the smaller clubs (WHam, West Ham, WHU or The Hammers) have outliers in terms of players on big wage but it certainly is not across the board. Comparing Spurs wages versus the top earner at another club is not really a valid comparison. Spurs pay about 6th in wages overall.

Our set up needs to be like Athletico and Dortmund. Players want to come to us because of the club's reputation, the coach and where we can get them. Then we sell and reinvest in the next crop. If we can pull it off, I don't see that as being a bad place to be.

I really hope you are right. It feels like we're on a real tipping point at the moment, where things could fall apart, or we could cement our place in the top 4. I dont believe that our 'net spend of zero' is a sustainable long-term transfer policy but just hope it is for this window
I blame Sky

What makes this hard though is that we have four clubs who can significantly out spend us in our league compared to one for Dortmund and two for Athletico.

its really hard for english fans to accept this - in germany dortmund could win with this strategy if bayern have an off season. slightly less likely in spain for atletico. for us, we need like 4 teams to mess up - fans just wont accept this here long term. we'll basically just be lablled as a team whose 4-6th, with no real ambition

That's because fans are idiots ...

Yep.

Sponsor deals should be looked at properly and clubs should have wage bills inline with true earnings. The fact that we run ourselves properly as I assume do some other clubs should not hinder us.

Regardless of us being spurs fans, this is killing the sport because soon all that will be left is super clubs about 4 from each league and nothing else. For sport to work the has to be an element of the under dog being able to get to the top table. Which is why despite their long ball defensive approach Leicester winning the league was a good thing.

PSG if they are allowed to compete in Europe next season it will be a joke, they have form because they have been fined before but clearly fines do not bother them. So we need to ban these teams from Europe and impose transfer bans on them.

Getting rid is the easy thing to do...managing the situation and changing his perception and similar like minded players is the real battle.

We already have an excellent team still minus walker!

We need to stop fearing the word trophies...and feelings of angst against players when they say they want them.

Is it time to question the direction of this club...maybe...we do sheet loads of the right things but have one trophy in 16 years.

Fook in years of fans acceptance and being glad to focus on top 4. Meh it's the fa cup...meh it's the league cup.

I want trophies...we need trophies! In the past we could have done more.

Getting sick of people telling me we're the new age goon fans.

I don't want us to settle for mediocrity...I know we aren't capable of mega wages but why the fook are we not making bids for the likes of Mahrez...Barkley.

So frustrating when we teeter on the edge of something special only to reign ourselves in.

I don't get the hatred for Danny...he's only saying what half of you have been saying on here...and never would I like to see....'he's a Cnut just fook him off this forum'
I don't have a problem with Danny Rose at all. I think many fans are being too precious, it's just the modern game. However, it is a shame Nigey that our most successful league season since the 1960s is being dismissed because we didn't win a trophy. What we achieved last season was incredible and I loved every minute except the semi loss to chelscum.

I tell you what is irritating me intensely is the silly narrative that our first 11 is so good we couldn't bring in any one who is not a superstar to improve it. Rose alluded to this in his interview. We are a very good team but not the galacticos, we need to wake up. Thought iheanacho would have added something, agree Mahrez should be someone we are in for. But hey what do I know.

Anyone else hear David Pleat being interviewed on 5live tonight? Always so mild mannered but tonight he was barely holding in his anger. We all know he is close to Levy. Pleat was sure we are bringing two and maybe three players in.

No but I would have like to have done. What did he say??

No

But he is a man I respect

Hell I'll throw it out there I did respect Rose more than anyone of our current side

And then Defoe at the top of our ex players
