Cos you guys LOVE a JJetset update.

We used to have a separate ITK-thread on glory-glory during transfer windows.

I guess there is a reason, why we dont have that anymore :D.

My personal view on all of this is that we will buy if we get the right deal, otherwise we will not. Same as it has always been, and I don't agree with overpaying for a player, whoever that may be. Poch has worked so hard to build a harmonious club, that I think to destruct that with inflated wages etc.... before we are ready will be detrimental to our progress. I personally would be over the moon if we managed to qualify for the CL this coming season on the basis that our opposition have strengthened and we have the variable factor that is Wembley.

I agree, our transfer system works, no need to change anything

I think we will be fine for top 4 and that we'll tear it up at Wembley

you're both right. we are weaker this season. if we finish top 4, then bearing in mind the weakness that we will have to endure away from WHL, I would argue that it constitutes massive progress.

another thing to bear in mind is that if TV deals do fall off, if we can save or invest otherwise than in players at the time the market is flooded, we will likely achieve a much bigger advantage in the future (new stadium, cash pile that didn't get spunked on a 75 mil Lukaku, ha!) than if we invested now. i'm positive.
Stop being sensible and looking mid to long term.;)

Didn't see Jim White getting ear-poked. That's Alan Irwin in the pic above.

Really want to see how Natalie Sawyer handles the same situation.

I can't wait till the window closes and sanity returns. I don't know the exact number but I'm sure I've seen over 40 players (many I've never heard off) linked in rumours of joining us and then the protracted debate on thier merits. The chances of us signing what is perceived as a world class player are extremely low and I can only see us signing a player which meets the criteia set by the club in term of age, price, wages and future development.

Unfortunately I expect weeks of further internal bickering about the clubs strategy and given the way it's worked for the past few years I can't see why anyone expects it to change.

This window has felt slightly more vacuous.
Possibly because our activities have been nonexistent, at least from media standpoint.

Could not agree more, and you know that there will be a few fans who will start slagging off Levy for failing to sign any of those 40 players, regardless of how much truth there was in any of those rumours.

I'm not worried in slightest more then happy with the current squad we have and if we buy no one I would still be confident we will do well(ish) this season however.... It does seem strange that at this point in the window we have yet to make a bid for anyone you would think our targets were identified months ago surely? And before anyone says 'how do you know we haven't' the media get wind of all sorts of bids for players especially ones from clubs as big as Spurs

I think we wanted Lemar and but got scared off by the potential fee.
I think we had interest in Keane, but not at the price Everton paid.
I think we want Barkley, but are waiting for Everton to get realistic with the fee for a player entering the last year of his contract.

Simple question - we're down one first-team player and have signed no replacements with 70m burning a hole in our pockets.

If we finish the window with the squad as it stands, would you expect us to get 86 points again? Second place, challengers, all that stuff? And I mean actually expect us to do so - with the attendant disappointment if we don't reach that total.

If not, the 'internal bickering' is justified, because the club will have regressed of its own accord (which is why you've lowered your expectations accordingly), and that's something worth pointing out.

I would actually argue that if we finish 3rd or 4th next year then that wouldn't end three years of forward progress at all.... We would enter our new stadium with the vastly increased revenue it will give us with a place in the Champions League group stages. If that happens then we are fantastically placed to continue our march forwards.

True, but in terms of league places, we will have fallen back, is all. We went from 6th to 5th to 3rd to 2nd - now we'd go back to 3rd or 4th. Regression of league status, more or less.

Can't say we regressed in terms of cups or anything, because we're still endlessly barren on that front anyway. :p
