Shouldn't that have been in the same direction as the rest?

I think these are the foundations that will carry the south stand and the three sections of the pitch will go on the sides and in between.

I would have thought as this is the single tier stand then the foundations will be significantly larger than the other three stands, and, as you say will need to be able to cope with the retractable pitch.

Maybe it is either for the rectractable first few rows of the South stand... or the motor mechanism that pulls/pushes the pitch. Obviously they know what they are doing. The main weight of the stand rests on the 2 enormous trees that sit on the 2 huge concrete blocks to the right... but you know that already
