Vincent Janssen

oh dear, he scores one goal against a league 1 team that didnt turn up and now he's the messiah and I hate "the he seems such a nice guy" comments as well, so soldado-esque, yeh nice guys finish last or don't score, maybe poch will give him more playing time, he is still one of the worst strikers Ive seen in our colours, his movement is appalling, he has no pace and for a big guy he's crap in the air, but hey he seems like a "nice guy".

Why does it aggravate you so much that people want one of our players to do well?

There are other easier things to hate.
A couple come to mind right now.

I may be in the minority with this opinion but I truly believe that V J will become a very good player for us.

He could be, to be honest, he needs a little luck. Our upcoming schedule is not terrible, if we roll a couple of those teams, he gets playing time and manages to contribute a few goals, it could change his Spurs career.

Said it before, his best case scenario is he contributes bit part to end of season (another 3-5 goals), gets him close to the 10 goal mark, earns a little trust with Poch, good pre-season and he starts next season as a genuine option for us.

Unfortunately for him, I think we are going to invest in another striker over summer, which will mean he will have additional competition for the 2nd spot (if we keep him).

He still has a lot to prove but Sunday was a good performance. He scored and got into a good position to score a headed chance. Ok he directed the header straight at the goalie but I won't hold that against him seeing as even the best strikers can miss "sitters." What was encouraging was that he was getting into the right positions to take those opportunities which he wasn't previously.

I certainly don't think he is the messiah but I was encouraged by his performance and we could do with him chipping in with some goals while Kane is injured. So its good he has that monkey off his back.

You're right it was a league 1 side but you can only score against what is in front of you. Small steps and all that.

I haven't seen anyone belive that he is some kind of Messiah. But I suits your need to belive so. How can you otherwise complain about others that thinks he is messiah, if there are none?

lol don't get your panties in a bunch over what others think.... life is too short.

I get that Janssen has been disappointing so far in terms of end product, but let's have a look at this from a sample size perspective.

So far he's only actually played 622 minutes of PL football (whoscored.com). That's slightly under 7 full games worth of Premier League football. Scoring one (penalty) goal so far.

Show me a striker that doesn't have dry spells that last that long.

To illustrate just how small that sample size is a hat trick (as unlikely as it looks) in his next league start would essentially put him spot on as scoring a goal every other game on average.

No need to talk about hat tricks.
Lets just hope he scores a few goals if / when he starts, or off the bench.

That will do.

so officially another game and another game he didnt score in, even with Kane out, Poch doesn't have the confidence in him to give him anything other than a night watchman role, firm shot at the saints keeper at the end, but what was telling for me was the look Alli gave him when he didnt and should have squared the ball for him to score a tap in, Alli looked at him like he had just done his missus and dembele also had a chance to play Janssen in but declined to, positives for VJ is his ability to fall down and win free kicks against tired opponents which I could probably do to be fair. Oh, I didnt mention he's a "nice guy". I hope he doesn't get injured playing for Holland. *cough*

Sadly agree with this.

I want him to succeed, but...

I was actually most annoyed with him soon after he came on. Alli broke at speed, Trippier was outside Alli but trailing, Janssen huffing through the middle but then suddenly stopped, dithering outside the box for a lay-off that was simply not on as Alli had the attentions of four Soton defenders closing in. IF janssen had broken into the box, he would've attracted some attention. Instead he dithered some 5 yards outside the box waiting for said lay-off that still would've left him with a 20-22 yard shot through an thicket of players! FFS man, BREAK INTO THE BOX EARLIER!!!!

Four minutes of game time and you're calling him out for not scoring? Then you imply wishing an injury on the guy? fudging brick man, could you be any more fickle?

Edit: @thfcsteff I expected better from you mate, cheap shot.

I think we all want him to be successful, and I still think he will score a decisive and important goal, but let's be honest, he is still working on thin patches of ice. I rarely get wound up by players but when he didn't 'show' for Alli on that breakaway...

Yeah but bloody hell mate, let's give him a full 90 minutes (preferably a few lots back-to-back) before we start plunging the knives in and kicking the brick out of the guy.

Guess what, Son is a very good player. Pochettino picking him over Janssen for this doesn't really say much other than that.

It wasn't exactly an easy pass for Alli. Having the shot was a decent enough decision.

Alli isn't exactly the easiest player to make the move for. He's rather unpredictable and often goes for the high flair, high risk pass or nutmeg or whatever rather than the easy obvious pass. A player still settling into the team not making what you think would have been the right move in a single incident is hardly all that noteworthy imo.

I also think Janssen is quite focused on getting goals. He's looking for opportunities for himself to score. Call it selfish, but considering the pressure on him as a striker to score and some of the reactions to what he's done so far I can't really blame him for it.
