Scottish Football

because of their history, which is no indicator of future performance

they are a relic of a bygone age, never to be relevant in European football again
Only because of the league they play in, the same could have been said about any English team during the dark years after heysel before sky got involved.

Sorry beg to differ, Celtic are a huge club with a fan base to back it up. If they aren't a big club why are they invited to the pre season tournaments and are usually one of the top testimonial draws?

I agree, they have a massive worldwide fan base, mainly due to exiles and they will always turn up to watch them. I think it's terrible whats happened to Scottish football, prior to the 90's most of the best teams had scots players, now there are hardly any.

This for me as well, when you think of all the great Scottish players over the years ( Mackay, Law, Baxter, Bremner, Hansen etc) and its hard to see any real talent coming out from there and its been that way for years.

you're from glasgow I presume, so a little biased. What have celtic done recently, are Scotland in the 24 team Euro's ? Celtic must have a great marketing department to play the likes of Barcelona because there isn't a hope in hell they would play them in a competitive match.

Yes I am from Glasgow, although I lean more to the blue side.
Funny only 4 years ago Celtic beat Barcelona in the champions league group stages. That seems quite recent, in fact the last British team to beat them?
If anything your refusal to acknowledge This would suggest you have a bias. Celtic are a big club by almost every definition you care to name.

Neil Lennon has been confirmed as Hibernaian boss. I know he was at Bolton for a couple of years but almost feels like he volunatarily gave up winning the league every season and Champions League football in exchange for the Scottish Championship. Very strange.

Will be much more difficult for him to succeed at Hibs than it ever was at Celtic although it wouldn't suprise me if he's only there to get them up before moving on to bigger and better things. (by which I mean English Championship...)

I care not much for Scottish football but Celtic are a big club, lets not get them mixed up with Saudi Sportswashing Machine in terms of self promotion.

European cup winners and Runners up, before people started believing that the 5th team in Spain, Italy and England deserved spaces before real clubs like Red Star, Celtic, Steaua Bucuresti.

That's the strange bit, Celtic in the group stages of CL regularly would attract a bigger audience. And we all know that's what CL is really all about, selling advertising

Why are Celtic playing this early in a CL qualifier anyway?
Celtic won their league and surely should enter the qualifying stage at a later more reasonable, no?

Because they, and all the other Scottish teams, have a bad record in Europe recently.
And I'm reall playing it down by saying bad.
