Tom Carroll

I'm sorry, but you are not gonna convince me Carroll is a great player. Only he himself can do that, but he'd have to up his game ten notches. I think he's pretty average. Period. Hopefully he'll prove me wrong, but nothing I've seen would suggest so. Don't think he's got it in him. He's 24 and should at least have started to show the signs, but I haven't seen it.

He is actually one month older then Mason ( and played less games), yet I keep hearing that the best is yet to come from Mason, if that is the case surely the same could be said for Carroll.

He reminds me of Leon Britton at Swansea and Joe Allen at Liverpool. Both are backup utility midfielders that knit things together but aren't THE MAN. Pretty forgettable players, do lots of neat things fairly well and keep it ticking and can click nicely... but aren't going to wow your pants off.

Every squad needs a few "water carriers". Just in case the seagulls are following the trawler.

No-one I have read on here is saying that Carroll is a 'great player'. Those who do not share your view that he is more suited to Bournemouth or Watford tend to follow the opinions of people like Brad Friedel and Poch (who I have to assume understand football AND the player's attributes better than you) and reckon he is good enough for the squad we have this year.

Tom Carroll

FOR

Can move ball forward quickly (key skill)
Full of running
Good press
Eye for a pass
Finds space to receive ball

AGAINST

Lacks physicality:
- weak in tackle
- easily outmuscled (key weakness)

Sadly I agree, very tidy player, but has to play with better players than himself to cope.

Useful squad player; will likely be happy to fill in when and where necessary as he's homegrown.

The sort of player that City and Chelski could do with (i.e. homegrown squaddie) and what United under SAF thrived with alongside the star quality who made up for what they lacked in quality with a will to fight for the shirt.

He wont necessarily take us to "the next level" on his own, but he will help to stabilise us when we reach a certain level (hopefully top 4)

I do not blame Carroll for our defeat today but I do not think he is good enough and I never see in a Spurs shirt again after today

I think he is done at Spurs, his contract expires on 30th June 2016, if Potch wanted hm he would have been offered a new contract by now. In my opinion he isn't good enough

The fact that he was the only midfield option he could bring on yesterday for me was a pretty good statement to Mr Levy.

Saw this last week - seems to conflict with the common belief that he is out of contract in the summer

(not that he can't still be sold of course)
(Dan Kilpatrick is the ESPN reporter assigned to Spurs, in case wondering why he might know this)

We've been particularly unlucky with injuries at CM this season. Bentaleb and Mason missing major chunks and then losing Dembele at the end. With our first choice quartet back fit for August, and Winks hopefully closer to contention, we should be ok to release Carroll and not replace him.

So you think our current midfield makes us strong enough? You jest. We are in the Champions League and we need to challenge for the title. If we do not improve our midfield then we are standing still, and with the other top clubs all strengthening we will be effectively going backwards

As for WInks I would rather he be sent out on loan
