I liked Erik Lamela before it was cool

Leave off! I see why he was taken off,as arse would have rolled and dived etc. the very next tackle lamela did, but he did nothing to warrant anything like a second yellow before then.

If he was "walking a tightrope" as they thought on BT then why did the ref only give one foul against him all game. Lamela knew what he was doing.

Poch put Mason on because he still doesnt understand this derby.
He did the same thing in away tie.
He thought "surely we have this won."

Glenn Hoddle understands it. When asked at 2-1 on BT he said something like its the North London anything could still happen.

Other derbies have similar intensity but something weird always happens in the NLD.

Lamela was our best player out there today and should never have come off, same as he never should have come off at the Emirates.

Not sure I agree with Poch not getting it, but I tell what Eric gets it! He knows exactly what these games are all about.

totally agree, he's our most important player, and he knows where the line is, he's walked it many times this season
 
I think he's really trying to drive us forward at the moment - he's still lacking the final ball/touch and really needs to up his goal threat but his determination can't be faulted one bit imho

I disagree, mason came on because we needed someone in the middle of the park winning possession back and keeping it with intelligent passing, that's what Mason does

I'm 100% he understand the passion and what it means etc.
Thats not what I'm trying to say.
The NLD is a freaky game.
The game always turns repeatedly on tiny incidents. Then afterwards the other side goes completely quiet.
The 3 pivotal moments today were typical of the fixture.

But he didnt play there. I would have been pretty happy with him in the centre with Dembele pushed up to close them down up the pitch. But Mason ended up mostly on the left hand side of the pitch with Alli advanced and Eriksen on the right.

Mason ended up completing 3 passes in 27 minutes on the pitch.

it seemed to me were going backwards for most of that, I didn't feel he was advanced
 
Yeah I felt if Lamela stayed on at that point, he was on a razor's edge. Mason was to slightly shut up shop but still keep pressing, but we let the momentum go their way instead. Poch and the lads hopefully have learnt from that.

Lamela did very well today, he has been having a very influential season, great energy.

Lamela was excellent and had he stayed on, I am convinced we'd have won. I think Poch got suckered into making the change by both the occasion and (more significantly) Sanchez trying to get him a second yellow/sent off. It would've continued. So I think this is one Poch will learn from too with regards to subs.

Has Poch not been subbing him around that time every game though?
 
If the subbing of Lamela is the reason why we dropped 2 points vs 10 men, then that is more a big indictment of the rest of the midfield/defence today than a statement of how important is Lamela is to the team (and i think he is VERY important)...

Shouldn't have mattered vs 10 men. Sigh

I agree we would have won.

The NLD earlier this season I said leave him on, let him get sent off, we'll hold on for the win.

Yesterday I agreed with taking him off, but I think I was wrong. Should have left him on, he'd would have probably got a red on 75-80, but we'd have kept pressing from the front and I think it's less likely they'd have equalised.
 
Lamela does lots of huffing and puffing, good lad I like see a player close opponents down. However, he is not in the side just for that. He is meant to be an attacking mid fielder. Where is the attacking threat? Three goals is not a good enough return.

Link up play and creative passing as well - which he does well at in both.

we turn over lots of possession and start attacks through players 'huffing and puffing' it's an important part of our attacking play - If our other attacking players huffed and puffed as well as he did yesterday then maybe we wouldn't have lost control the game when he went off - just a thought as it amazes me people still try to down play attributes which are obviously quite a big part of how the manager sets his team up

He's our second highest goalscorer in all competitions.
