*** OMT Spurs v Aston Villa ***

We must show a more energy/urgency from the off IMHO.

We are going to be tested on Sunday from the first whistle.

I like the win don't get wrong but we just looked sleepy all night.

We are not going to play like that on Sunday and I think that it was because we have such big games on Thursday and Sunday that we were holding a little back tonight. Surely, that is far better than going hell for leather tonight and running out of steam half way through Sunday's game?

The goal conceded f-d up my fantasy league climb (I have Toby in my team)....BUT I did sign Kane this week so i guess that balances that out:D

Have to admit I didn't see their game at Swansea so I assume the scoreline was flattering. I would like to think they will raise their game on Sunday. The thing I like about this squad is we appear to have more players these days that 'get' the rivalry. In the past I have felt too many of the team have just treated as just another league match.

It was not totally removed from our game tonight. Arsenal won but there were times when Swansea really could have changed the game. Swansea had more possession than Arsenal. If we are to think that we need to play better, then my point is that our weekend opposition don't always play at peak form either. Both teams will want to be playing at a higher level at the weekend. We need Dembele to do a job on Ozil. Ozil will be the danger, he has had an excellent season this year.

Exactly. Our inexperience is showing, unfortunately
Yeah. Have faith fudgeers! I think Lamela has had a great game tonight, and his last 15 mins have been mature and majestic.

Lamela was really poor in the first half. Him and Rose were by far our worst players in the first half. We lost midfield control and hold up play when Mousa went off. Lamela redeemed himself somewhat with a good last 15 minutes but for 75 minutes before that he was non existent and looked to be suffering from no confidence with his crazed eyes of last season. However, he never gave up and helped settle us down towards the end, especially his set up for Kane, which was classy.

I don't agree with a couple of things there. I think that we lost control of the game after the goal, we forgot our game plan and started chasing the game, that this was after Dembele went off I think was coincidental. I think that Lamela had a good second half and off the pace a little, was not as bad as you are making out in the first.

Suggest you watch the game again. I was calling for Lamela to be replaced by Mason after about 40 minutes - he really was poor.

It could be just a coincidence that we lost control to coincide with Dembele going off. But it certainly wasn't the goal. We were rocking before that and their goal came at the end of a relatively sustained attacks from Villa. My comment at the time was that it had been coming.

I hope your right. We need Son back, he gives us that spark we need.

But a wins a win - so happy tonight

Credit to Villa for smelling blood in the last 15 minutes. I think it changed at bit when Dembe was taken off. By the way, I understand why he was taken off with two other important games in the coming days. We surely need him.
Lamela did very well in the second half, and the 3-1-goal was brilliant to watch. Bold to let Onomah get a taste of it, but I like it :)
I said before the game: I'll take the three points whatever way we do it. And we deserved the win IMO.
Now, let's give Anderlecht a lession, and be ready for the NLD on Sunday. Can't wait!

I saw you calling for Lamela to come off earlier. I don't think that it was a great performance from him in the first but it was not terrible and he certainly improved as the game went on.

There are always ebbs and flows in a game and Mason has been out for a while, so it was always going to take him a while to settle. Surely, it is in our interests to try and get that out of the way early and in a game where we are on top rather than potentially being forced into it later in the week when it might not be at a time of our choosing. I still think though that it was going to take a mistake to let them back into the game.

Apart from the immediate aftermath of their goal, it was a strong performance from us tonight and I think that we can take a lot of positives from it. Winning comfortably at half pace and keeping a bit in reserve is what the best league teams do. We obviously suffer for our inexperience occasionally but this is definitely a team heading in the right direction.

I love Poch's thinking towards the end: 'hmmm...we are losing Control of the game. I think I'll put on an 18 year old boy'
A brave call but I would guess that Poch was looking for someone to hold the ball up the pitch for a bit to relieve the pressure, which he did pretty well (and Lamela did too of course).
