Daniel Levy - Chairman

I have to say, even as a Spurs-fan, I never imagined us to be in this situation at the end of the transfer window. We had an entire summer to find a striker and we couldn't find anyone? Okay, we wanted Berahino, and couldn't agree a price, that's fine. I agree we shouldn't pay over the odds if we aren't convinced it would be good business, but then we need to look elsewhere. We can't place all our eggs in one basket. And clearly we weren't entirely convinced Berahino was the right man anyway. Otherwise we would have made sure we got the deal done. Somewhere in the world there must be a decent striker we could have brought in for a decent price to give Kane some competition / a partner/ some rest.

What are we gonna do this season? Are we going to play Kane in every single game? Are we going to play someone out of position whenever he needs a rest? I don't know if Son or N'jie can do a job up front, but from what I've read, that has their been their position. And GHod forbid if Kane gets a lenghty injury in the near future. It really is a shambles.

Berbatov hasn't gone anywhere yet, has he? He would be better than no one, even at this stage of his career. And as a free agent he can still sign.

The central midfield is also a problem area for me. We needed to strengthen there as well, but nothing happened. In my opinion we have needed a playmaker ever since we sold Modric, but we still haven't managed to find one. We probably also need someone with more defensive awareness, unless you find someone who can combine the two roles (a Carrick-type). We have decent midfielders, but we need better than decent, both more experience and more quality.

My thoughts exactly. I'm not that disappointed that we didn't sign Berahino, but was seriously the only striker we were looking at? Really? Why did it take us nearly 3 months to realise that West Brom weren't going to sell unless it was for crazy money and that we were going to have to pay a premium? It's just amateurish to be honest. If you're not happy to pay the money, move on and come up with some alternative targets. Given how we fecked up in AVB's first season risking playing games with 1 striker, why have we not learnt from this and thought it to be worth the risk to have ONE striker for 4 months?! It's all very well saying x player "can play up front" but that's like saying Danny Rose can play left wing.

Anyone with even half a football brain also could have told you we needed some creativity in central midfield and some solidity as Mason and Bentaleb whilst still young ish and perhaps have some potential do not provide enough of either.

But he can though.

I would assume that they were giving different messages in private to they were saying in public.

What makes you think that? If Jeremy Peace had verbally agreed with Levy that we could have signed him for £25m and not a penny less, surely Levy would have just offered that amount or decided to call it a day.

He can of course, but ideally, we would have enough players in each position rather than playing someone who played their x years ago and "can do a job".

Well none of us know for sure that either of our new players up front will not be able to replace Kane if/when needed. So saying that they can only " do a job" is guesswork at this time.

Well I'm going by the positions they played at their previous, neither are out and out strikers.

Joke all you want mate but deep down, we all know it's not out of the realms of possibility.

That managers get sacked no you are right ( and my biggest gripe with/about Levy is he sacks to many), but I doubt he would be if we finished 7th or 8th which was your post.

Because we were talking to them for a while before we submitted the first bid and we received enough encouragement to make four bids in total. They have also gone public at each stage which to me looked them trying to get an auction going. Berahino's tweet earlier today seems to suggest, that he thought that a move was on too.

I don't think you need encouragement to make a bid, I doubt Chelsea felt any encouragement from us before they made formal bids for Modric for example.
