General Transfer Rumour Discussion Thread

I would give this window a 6. Hard to rate without seeing the new lads play, but Son is an exiting signing and we shifted a ton of players. Those that remain should make up the squad.

Not to us or other PL clubs. We can loan out to championship clubs or lower.
Only players we can still sign are free agents like Berbatov. Players whi were out of contract before the Window closed
Cheers. Madness to be one injury from having no available striker at the club. Berbatov is better than nothing. Much as it pains me to say it I would get Ade back training if all else fails.

I don't like our squad. We are a fair way away from what we could have been had a more astute chairman (transfer-wise) been at the helm.

5/10. Mediocre. I'm not as outraged as I was last season because at least we haven't bought garbage bargain-bins like Stambo and Fazio in a panic, and at least we've signed some genuine quality (CL quality) in Son and Alderweireld, if nothing else.

But it could have been so, so much better had we had...well, you know, someone more daring than Dan up top.

It's worth putting out there that after Kane's emergence last season, we of all fans should know that we DON'T know what is going to happen in any given season and amazing performances/quick player development really can come out of nowhere...

@DubaiSpur do you think that there is anything to be said for this being a very weird transfer window where it was difficult to close deals. I see similar complaints from Arsenal, Chelsea and United fans tonight that their squads are too thin and obvious weaknesses have not been addressed and they are all in a different world to us financially.

2 signings and an Adebayor transfer away from an 8 or 9 out of 10 window. As it is we've left ourselves short in CF and are putting a lot of weight on a young CB playing a different role in CM.

5/10

Basically what we've done, we appear to have done well - but it's what we haven't done which is the problem

Seems like Levy & co. missed out on plan A, B, C, D and E.

And F, G, H, I and J.

I am not happy with this window, we did well at first to get shot of some players and then ... kept Adebayor. Very annoying. I want that human away from my club.

I'm guessing if we had got some money/wages paid for that idiot we could have bought a replacement.

Yes we bought N'Jie and Son but I don't think they will offer much this year. Really disappointed to be honest, very flat end to the window.

Berahino would have added a huge amount of polish and excitement and feelgood factor to the last day, considering we are yet to win a game.

I appreciate the fee was a bit too high but we should have just done it IMO assuming it was somewhere within reach (and I don't think we would have been bidding 4 or 5 times if it was never within reach).

When is a Son's work permit expected?

How far away is Nige from being fit?

Who will play up top in the single striker role if not Kane?

Will our new recruits herald the end of 4231?

With everyone fit and eligible, what is Pochs best team?

So many questions, so few answers

This has been a bit of a strange window, true. The TV money is really starting to distort the market, and it's showing, with clubs like Palace and Saints building squads that could easily beat ours in terms of quality on any given day, and proving more resilient when it comes to holding on to their players.

However, S'oton still sold Clyne to Liverpool and Schneiderlin to United. Liverpool accordingly sold Sterling to City. A host of transfers happened between clubs lower in the table. And of course, a lot of quality was signed from abroad by nouveau-riche clubs across the PL spectrum.

Deals were still done, squads were still improved, inter-PL transfers still happened. And we pleaded poverty and missed out on doing that to the full extent we could have (again, I have to point out that Alderweireld and Son were good moves, and deserve to be praised in that regard). And I think that has left us somewhat weaker in relative terms than we were last year, at least when compared to the likes of Everton, Palace et al.

This was a window where a push could have allowed Poch to really mould his squad in his image, and given us a boost in an increasingly competitive league. Instead, we left it halfway, thanks (in no small part) to Daring Dan.

I do understand that if the striker or the DM, that Poch wants is unavailable, we don't go down that route of getting in stop gap filler players. Just hope the fans and Levy show patience with Poch and the players if we have a poor run of results.

I do like the players we've bought in. I feel we've improved the squad and I can see the likes of Eriksen, Kane and Lamela all improving having pace on the field around them.

Arsenal fans are over the moon with this window. Such a savvy club in transfer market: http://arsenal-mania.com/forum/threads/the-wenger-appreciation-thread.27173/page-35

So that's it then, for another year. Bit of a damp squid today. I shall have to go and watch the chess.

He's currently in Korea and has been given leave for one of their games to sort out the remaining papers.

How far away is Nige from being fit?

11 days before our next game, though I don't expect to see much of him until the EL game.

Who will play up top in the single striker role if not Kane?

Son, N'jie, Chadli, Dembele, Lamela, Mason

Will our new recruits herald the end of 4231?

Not exactly a very important issue. Let's give everyone time to bed in first.

With everyone fit and eligible, what is Pochs best team?

See above.

I think what worries me most and I assume others is the uncertainty. No one really knows what we've got and how long they will take to settle. Dont get me wrong I am excited by Son and Njie, but will anyone be shocked if neither work out? I'm not an expert on either player but it looks like Son will take up the wide right role and Njie will be back up for anywhere in the front 4. Just a lot of question marks which isn't a great place to be when u are 0 wins from 4. Hope both the lads hit the ground running.

FWIW, for the money we spent on those 2 I think I would have spent 25m on Berahino and took a chance on someone like Matt Ritchie as cover across the 3 behind Kane. Lets face it, we are no longer in a position to attract the big names - as shown.

I still think we have a decent young squad and can knuckle down now and get on with it.

Lennon to Everton is that cheat sheet thing so will likely go through meaning just Ade left out of the people with bad attitude so the spirit should be good and I think that's underestimated. Everyone there is there because they're wanted and compatible with pochs attitude and approach to training and tactics etc.

Wouldn't be surprised if we release Ade on a free soon and West Ham sign him up immediately in a special type of deal.

Okay we are were we are. Hopefully our reasonable good play gets some results in September or it could get ugly real fast. With the europa Qarabag fixture followed by Palace, Arsenal, and city at home after trip to Sunderland.

I'm still shocked we didn't go for Austin if Berahino was not happening... Son must be one hell of a player for us to think he can step up to the required level. Without Kane we'll be pretty toothless IMO.
