***OMT - TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR V manchester united***

I thought Utd were ar5sehole lucky to win that game and I'm glad we didn't get LvG as boss.

Bentaleb needs to address this habit he's got of making easy passes in a stupid way. It's not good him playing ok and then gifting the opposition an attack on our goal, he's done this quite a few times before. I trust the coaches to help him sort this.

We were the better side today imo. We just needed to take a chance in that opening period and we'd have won I think. Very unlucky to not get a point.

Utd will probably finish top 4 but they will get nowhere near the title imo.

Its a mental thing...one of the hardest thing to correct in a footballers game...Delle Ali to start next game please.

I do concede the point.

But I also happen to agree with Raziel that some of the reaction to a somewhat unfortunate and undeserved defeat at Old Trafford, on the first day of the season is......baffling.....(to be tactful). ;)

yeah but there will always be fans who see things differently, maybe more negatively, and constantly moan....then again there are others who rarely post anything negative, always look on the bright side. Thing is, everyone should be allowed to express themselves.

Indeed.

And everyone can. I don't think the suggestion was ever otherwise. Raziel was merely commenting on others' opinions, not censoring them. ;)

I was happy we never got mullered but having seen the game, it's incredibly frustrating to have lost to what was once again an error. These things will happen, Bentaleb made a similar mistake here last year too didn't he? He did it a fair bit against Liverpool away too. This is where we could really do with an experienced head alongside him.

Anyway, it's one game away to Man Utd and we lost. Plenty of positives and it's not the type of result that we will mull over for too long. I expect United to get a lot better as the season goes on and us too.

Walker was very good. The back 4 in fact done well. In hindsight I thought we dived in too quickly to try and make up for Bentalebs mistake. Vertonghen left Young and Alderweireld went across to cut out what became the immediate danger leaving Rooney unmarked.

Kane looked not quite match ready. Quite slow. Eriksen looked lively. Chadli a bit ponderous same with dembele. Liked that we showed a bit more urgency with runners on the pitch in Lamela, Mason, and Alli.

We can build on this. COYS

Well, that was a bit ****.

Sigh. Showed more endeavour towards the end of the second half, and it took Alli coming on for Dier (something I wanted to happen at half time) to give us some spark. Ultimately, we suffered an unlucky defeat against an absolutely terrible United side, which is frustrating given that this likely was our best chance to beat them: before they gain coherence and form.

I think our superior fitness gave us m
I can actually see us playing with a pacy goalscorer (N'jie/Berahino links) instead of Chadli.

As someone else said, Kane dropped deep and he and Eriksen just knocked the ball around the UTD players only for the ball to move out wide to a full back with no-one to aim at. In these cases a second forward/goalscorer would be great as they would move ahead of Kane and pick up some good positions. Chadli did do this at times today and he did make some good supporting runs that weren't spotted, but one of those players mentionned would offer something different.

Absolutely. I think Berahino is a risk personality-wise (from what I have read, so take it with salt I suppose). N'jie is who the manager wants, so we need to get it done. His player-type would've had fun today IMO, because the spaces were there. Felt for Kane today, he was quality even when harried by two, three at a time, and dragged players all over the shop. We just didn't have the nous in those areas to punish.

Again, we need to have patience and I see the signs of a rebuild which is going to be long-term excellent as opposed to short-term flash.

One thing regarding Bentaleb...it was a shocker today, no argument, but I wonder what would happen if he had a genuine DM alongside to allow him to push on more? Is Bender the answer? If so, pay up Daniel, because the truth is we have a transfer window PROFIT in the last few windows!

it's like there wasn't a summer break, same old faces peddling the same old rhetoric

it was a close game today but you could copy/paste some posts straight from last seasons game when they murdered us

@thfcsteff, Berahino's is likely far better than N'Jie: from what I've read (Lyon fans on r/soccer, mainly), Lyon would be laughing all the way to the bank if they managed to sell us N'Jie for ten million quid. 'One dimensional', 'pace but not much else', 'lazy': those were the verdicts of the Lyon fans on there.

I don't think Poch would want the worse player out of N'Jie and Berahino, really. If those fans are telling the truth, of course.

Yeah it's just boring. You get the impression some people on here toss themselves silly when we lose. Bentaleb has one nightmare game and all the goons that were crying out for Levy to just pay him what he wanted when he hadn't signed his contract are now saying he isn't good enough. I saw someone a few posts back laying into Mason and he didn't even start!!!! We played decent todAy, should have got a draw, but didn't.

but we need both, its shouldnt be a case of either or.

@NWND, you also get the distinct impression that some posters can't wait for a loss so they can lead a wild-eyed witch hunt against anyone not completely happy with the performance and result. Don't know why being holier-than-thou gives these posters so much pleasure, really.

id take that atm....our attack is crying out for an injection of pace....I read somewhere that Njie's footballing stats are very impressive from last season, and we know that Mitchell and Poch pay attention to the data side of the game so thats why we are probably after him.

I get that, which is why I wouldn't mind him coming in along with someone like Berahino (or even Yarmolenko, who seems a more complete player): what I do not want is to end up with just N'Jie. A pace demon would be found out very quickly in the PL: Townsend's pace, for example, doesn't help him much given his lack of footballing intelligence, since defenders have cottoned on and now just force him into the middle where he generally loses the ball.

I have not seen enough of him so don't know. What I do know is that the management want him, thus 'in Poch I trust'?!

apparently its not just intelligence at football that he lacks......his intelligence is being mocked full stop by fellow england teamates. :)

problem with Townsend is that he is very selfish as we know. Fro what ive seen of Njie he is unselfish on the pitch, always looking to play one twos and prepared to find a teamate if he is in a better position

Great result, we could have let in a few more if they were any good, looking forward more games like that as I love reading the type of thing that gets on this site. I love this team and have done for 60 years but if I felt like some of the people on here I'd have topped myself back in the 70's. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but some people just want to moan continually and bang on with the same postings. I can understand why a lot of fans don't like our fans, I'm not too keen on a lot of them myself. Never mind only 37 more games to go and they can look forward to sacking the manager, getting someone else they HATE and be sold off to some Cambodian war criminal.

I have been waiting a long to see Spurs get lucky in a game against the top four. A flukey goal and bad off side goal, a dodgy penalty and laughable own goal. The other lot seem to get plenty against us.

Dunno about how bright he is off the field, and really don't care much: decent, quiet lad, who cares how smart he is. Doesn't affect THFC. :p However, I am concerned about his lack of footballing intelligence, and if N'Jie is an improvement in that regard, then great, I'm more optimistic about his signing.

You know, I agree with you: I'm starting not to like quite a few of our fans myself. Specifically, the sanctimonious, arrogant, zealot-like holier-than-thou sort.
