Jasper on SO re Deadwood

We don't have to shift first. Targeted players will come in whilst deadwood is here or not. Becomes interesting when nearer the end of the window and they realise they won't be in the squad if they are proving difficult to move.

trix on MS : A few bits on this most of it of it from Saints end.
We have not had a bid accepted, so I can only assume we have not matched their asking price(whatever that may be).
MS refusal to sign a contract means Southampton are now looking to sell (as long as the money is right), and they already have players lined up.
Regardless of what he said regarding only playing for a CL club, he would 100% still leave Southampton for us.

on mcccarty being on our list: If he is he's a long way down.
on shelvey: I haven't heard his name mentioned either.

ali z commenting on lyall thomas' story about no ms bids and only go to cl club: we have bid for him and he would come, obviously he will go to where pays him most etc, as I understand it not Arsenal's or Utd's top target.

JJetset suggesting we're not getting Alderweireld, but he might go to Chelsea.

trix on Alderweireld: From what I hear this is more the agent and AM trying to increase his options and push up the financials. He's been offered, and it's being considered, but was not one that was specifically targeted.

on Scheiderlin: Just told, more likely to be Imbula or one of the Germans unless things change. Still the top target but plenty of complications making this difficult. Definitely no bid accepted by Saints(from Spurs end aswell now)

hertyid on yedlin speculation: I certainly havent heard that he's being sold. My only info was that other most established teammates thought he was sub-par technically.

ali z ms:
we are 1 of 3 with arse and utd but nobody has agreed a fee.

trix: More in it than that mate, Saints have had enquiries from both City and PSG aswell. As I have said when one club agrees a fee I wouldn't be surprised to see others match it fairly quickly.

trix: Then there are definitely 5 teams(that I know of) interested according to Saints end.

aliz on ms: Although plenty are interested we are the most keen on him and he knows that.

ali z on turan:
Nothing and imo not affordable by us.

JJetset on rumours we're after Austin: It's gonad*s

So it sounds like we are trying to drag out MS in the hope that Arse, United etc. all bring in their first choice signings before we offer the asking price, In case we offer what they want now and everyone panics and comes in and gazumps us.
It makes sense but still doesn't sound too promising if we are up against 3 or 4 clubs that want him.

*Still waits for someone to say ''Why are we dragging this out, we should've just backed the manager and paid what they wanted back in May and got it done early'' blah blah*

Yep we are not in pole position for this, unfortunately it means we probably we have to do late business for this position. Not ideal but dont think we have much choice

They would only have accepted a ludicrous amount of money last year. It's not like they needed it did they? Really sad how it comes back to not backing the manager rather than being sensible with our money.

Something tells me a few people on here are not very good with money management.

trix: This is not a case of if we fail to land MS we move on to our second choice and start from scratch. We have been talking to at least 4 clubs simultaneously regarding CM's. Milner, Nainggolan, kondogbia and Shelvey are not and never have been in the running.

Jasper Spurs Odyssey: I dont hear everything. MS I personally believe leaning towards United from whispers. Media with agent leaks printing a lot of inaccuracies and one should expect that, as their (media) source uses them to get new contracts and other clubs interested are fine examples. There are no new targets because we lost our preferred, so to speak as working and talking to the list of players we identified a long while ago. No need to panic is the word.

And something tells me that at least someone on here isn't the quickest at spotting a joke when it's made.

You might see indianspur's post in a different light if you have a more careful read of dingdongo's post again. ;)

The two are not mutually incompatible, imo.We can be 'sensible' with money and still give the manager dogbrick to work with. In fact, I think one is generally dependent on the other.

I think we need to do our business at the end of the window as if we don't the players agents call the normal candidates and say " we are about to join tottenham for X do you want him?" we can only get players they don't want unless they have already done their business and even then its touch and go - i.e. Willian.

All this talking to lots of players maybe true but why talk just fudgen sign preferred and stop penny pinching which this is what it's all about right ? Our preferred target is MS so just get him . Put in bid acceptable to Southampton make him one of best paid players at club cos he probably would be and if he doesn't agree to wages walk away and go for second choice. Fact is these players hold out as long as possible to wait for bigger clubs than us to come in and we simply have to wait till they decide what or who they want .. First dibs they have . Until we get cl then the we are talking with loads of players will be the status quo to save face if u like

Yeah just get him in, don't worry that the player might not want to come or wants to see if United or Arsenal want him, just buy him - that's that settled, who else shall we just go and buy?
