Official - BAE

I think this is different from the Adebayor situation. BAE isn't really that good anymore, he's not even really cut it at QPR. Whereas Ade is more than good enough to play a part in our team.

People think we will/ should keep him? Thought it was a mistake loaning him out but I've been told last season he struggled at QPR. Wouldn't know myself as I don't watch the Championship that often. Surelly has to be a better option than Rose still though?

I think he had one rough game towards the end and since then it's become "Benny couldn't cut it in the Championship". I read qprdot.org fairly regularly and the general consensus was that he was one of their best players until that point(he then got injured straight after so left on a lowish note). AVB loaned him out, just like he wanted to do with Ade but we all know Ade is still good enough for us so Benny shouldn't be written off either. If I had to put money on it though I reckon he'll be gone by the window.

He's not in America with us is he. I'm not sure if that is WC related though, seeing how early Cameroon went home cf our Paulinho, Lloris and the Belgians.

When I watched Benny for qpr last year he wasn't really trying that hard. He is well capable when he is bothered.

Looks like he's off but I personally would keep him. How anyone with a football brain can rate Rose above him I will never know.

The World Cup bust up was I'll disciplined and unlike the Benny I remember. Think it might be a sign of the times for him.... A shame because I think he's great and left a season too soon

Even at his best, he was never really top class imo. And it's been a couple of seasons since he has played at that level. Move him on, and one of the younger players can be back up to Davies.

Well from what I saw of Rose last season i would rather have Benny than Danny. If we sign Davies, and BAE is happy with being back-up then great. keep Fryers and Vertonghen wont need to worry about playing LB for Spurs again.
See if Sunderland still want Rose and cash in while we can

Just saw on twitter that the mirror are apparently running that Hull are interested in Rose for £6m and was going to say pretty much exactly this.

Believe it or not I think Rose is worth double that. Defending is the area Rose needs to work on. You can learn that side of the game. Going forward he's naturally gifted. Not dissimilar to Walker, though a little short and vulnerable in the air. Rose and Davies would be a very good first and second choice, each pushing the other to improve.

Yep I would be happy with that. Rose is not a LB as far as I can see. Just a winger filling in.

I watched Benny very closely in the WC and for a while I saw the old Benny. Pretty focused, following runners, reading the game well. And then thanks to a brainless act by Song they were effectively out and he reverted to QPR Benny. Benny still has the ability, just not the motivation.

Given his height, he actually fares pretty decently in the air.

Aerial duels win %

Ekotto 66%
Walker 59%
Rose 54%
Naughton 49%
Davies 39%

On paper Ekotto and Ben Davies together as our left back options seems pretty perfect to me. In addition to assuming that we sign Ben Davies, that's also assuming that Ekotto is motivated, happy and works well with Poch.

Like under AVB I have my doubts that Ekotto and Poch will be a good match. Like AVB Poch seems to be very detail oriented, tries to give very specific instructions on how to play and wants his players to fit into a specific system. Ekotto won't get the kind of freedom he said he appreciated under Redknapp.

Like with Ade I think Poch will know soon enough if he can work with Ekotto or not.

Do you not rate Fryers?

He impressed me every outing of his I saw last season. He looked head-and-shoulders above Rose - so much more aware and composed.

Fryers has looked promising indeed. Wouldn't mind him and Ben Davies as our left back options, but short term a more experienced squad player in Ekotto that a younger full back might also learn from would make us stronger I think.

I also think that Fryers might benefit more from a loan deal at some point rather than just being a backup option.
