so.... Um..... ratings?

The ratings for bentaleb are baffling... He was awful, weak, lost the ball more than anyone... Dembele was our best outfield player (though still not good) and people giving him a 3.. Aren't opinions a funny thing...?

For sure he looked lost at times, hardly surprising considering his lack of experience against currently one of the world's best sides, but watching again there was quite a bit of neat football tucked in there, especially first half. Born out by his chalkboard stats which considering it was against City were pretty respectable.

not terrible but not great. of course, he can only look as good as the rest of the team so when we're out-passed 2:1 (which was more a symptom of going a man down), i think we need to identify other areas of weakness before pointing to bentaleb.

Yeah when I saw the line up I thought we were in for a tough evening. A glance at the bench had me even more concerned: we simply didn't have the options to change the game from the bench. Soldado would have been the only possibility, but two up top would have been inviting a landslide.

I thought we got hammered largely for the first half, but I was delighted that we basically got nasty and managed to see it through to half time. I was pleased with the commitment, and I hope that was the shape of things to come: when we're up against it taking on a genuinely better opponent, kicking and scratching, fouling our way back into contention is fine by me.

I had a sneaky suspicion that we were in with a real shout in the second half: city's momentum broken, best player off, but after the penalty it was a complete write-off. Still, I pleased with the genuine disappointment at conceding the fourth, and the way Sherwood was snarling on the touch line. I think he is a winner, and we might just develop a combative winning, battling mentality under him.

In summary - thoroughly beaten, hands largely tied due to a very debilitating injury list conspicuously overlooked by the media, but strangely - and rather paradoxically - positive signs for the reasons mentioned above. Also a result that has little to no bearing on our season.

Thought I'd have my say in the correct thread this time \o/

Oh absolutely, he did look well out of his depth and muscled out, don't blame him. I blame Sherwood. Capoue came on and looked impressive, incredible enegery, constantly closing down, battling, fighting, unlike every other player we had. And always felt that's what we needed to protect the back 4. Oh well. Done now :)

Ooh sarky! And there was me trying to stick up for Bentaleb.

Ah well.

Lloris - 7 Some top saves, could've been worse otherwise
Capoue- 7 a goal!
Dembele 7 carried the team, fought and held on the vital posession all by himself. valiant victory against yaya toure, who gave up a yellow card out of frustration.

right flank - 6 walker and lennon - tried to drive down the wing but was continually snuffed out of the game, smart move by Emirates Marketing Project
left flrank - 6 rose and some space on the less experienced side afforded by Emirates Marketing Project, again smart move
attack - 6 tried his darndest but no support whatsoever
Defence - 6 pity chiriches and Dawson for having no support around them! that hole in front of the defence....
There but not there enough- Eriksen, Siggurdson, 5. Lack of physical toughness cost them dearly in this game. Need serious consideration.
Naughton - 6 decent replacement

Bentaleb - 4 too many misplaced passes and doesn't support Dembele or the defence enough. never did want to track silva who was in the hole and ochestrating things from the first minute.
