Re: ***The Official AVB Discussion Thread***

Yep and look how that turned out. I admire the optimism of the fans but unfortunately the problem is not how hard he works. I must admit I have no idea who
should come in or even how we should play. But sometimes it just takes someone to come in and lift the club entirely to quote the "bearded one" "we are in a negative spiral of results" It is very hard to get out of this and there is no evidence whatsoever that AVB can get us out of it. In fact I'd say going by the Chelsea experience the opposite is more likely.

And IMO that Chelsea experience is the same reason i feel optimistic that he will turn it around. He's literally been at his lowest with that whole experience and will use all his experience and hopefully good feedback to turn things around.

Re: ***The Official AVB Discussion Thread***

I really think people are underestimating how ruthless Levy can be if he thinks that acting so will bring him better results. Look at the way that he dealt with Martin Jol, his exit was brutally handled.

I think if Levy is questioning AVB's management, due to the amount of money that AVB spent in the summer, and the dire performances produced by the team following this investment. If we lose v Man U & stutter again, AVB could very well be gone by Christmas.

It's precisely because of the amount of money AVB's spent that Levy will probably repress his anger and keep him on. For better or worse, Levy gave AVB 100 million pounds this summer, which AVB spent on the likes of Paulinho, Soldado and Eriksen. Sacking him now would mean firstly paying him compensation, and then bringing in a new manager who will want his own players and will demand a sizeable budget to bring them in. Both these things will require spending even more money on top of what we spent this summer, and promises another summer or two of squad upheaval post May-2014 as the new guy settles in.

Too expensive to get rid of him: easier to give him a chance and see if he sorts out the problems around the players he himself bought and the system he himself chose.

All evidence points to the contrary.

In fact, the mythical 'new manager bounce' has been proven to be no more than regression to mean. Almost all clubs that replace their manager when on a bad run would have done as well or likely better with the old manager in place.

Still, don't let inconvenient stuff like facts get in the way of a good old-fashioned witch hunt.

How the hell can you know that?

My greatest fear is that the rolling ball of negativity has destabilized AVB over the last month, and that now the players are destabilized and as such might not all be behind the manager.

We will see what kind of character they have against Man Utd.

I don't doubt that AVB will give everything he has trying to right the wrongs, I hope the players are right there with him...

You mean like the 'spiral of negativity' AVB said **** were in after our NLD win in March?

The worrying thing is if he TRULY believed they were in such a negative spiral and they could get out of it, what they hell does he think about his and Spurs' current situation???

Re: ***The Official AVB Discussion Thread***

I don't think it's all AVBs fault today but then again how can we look at the team and say they are bad enough to lose 6-0. I worried for our defence the moment I read the lineup but knew that the midfield might get some joy with the man advantage. Townsend was benched (we'll never know why), but in all honesty he should have been given a crack at the left today because even though Lamela looked good in places, Townsend working down that side would have been more dangerous. The worrying thing as well is that despite our "mean defence", I have been bricking it often this year watching the "lesser teams" cut through us with just one or two passes, or how when a big striker knocks the ball down the first man to the ball is not our DM, who happens to be advanced further up the pitch. Today City did just that, but often. They got through us with just a little bit of good movement and one man making the right run. The ball got played through the middle of us yet we had the numerical advantage in the middle.

AVB said he picked the players he did today because he had had the international break to work a plan out with them. It worked to some extent even after Lloris gave them the lead, but we looked so weak at the back and the Holtby/Paulinho axis never worked. On that not Paulinho needs a bloody rest because I'd rather see Dembele and Sandro back at the heart of it again. Paulinho slows us down, he carries the ball forward slowly and too foten passes the ball backwards or sideways, usually because of a poor first touch or because he doesn't look up to see the forward option.

Some positives though. Our high line in possession wasn't as high today although Dawson still launched long balls out to Lennon, ruining good possession. Our midfield did find gaps and did build up quite well until they reached the 18 yard box. Quite what we need to do get through to the goal I cannot tell (else i'd have handed my CV in to Daniel Levy), but I worry that we aren't going to get there under AVB and I do like most fans like the bloke.

Things just don't seem right in many areas yet we have somehow got to 20 points and are still only 2 off the fourth spot. I'm not an optimist at all but here goes. Chins up and look forward. Ignore the s***y West Ham fans and nasty gooners they will fall away (and hopefully get relegated in the case of the hammers). There's only so long that this group of players can play this badly, because lets face it, they have done well elsewhere and will come good again.

What a rational, great read!

Re: ***The Official AVB Discussion Thread***

Yes but its not really relevant here. This isn't about our results short term. If we got a manager in now we'd be pretty much writing off the rest of the season and attempting to build something for next year.
But what manager would be willing to come here after sacking Redknapp and AVB?
Levy isn't gonna get rid of him until he has someone else lined up.
If it happens it will be January

A witch hunt is exactly the way you acted when Arry was in charge. You would moan even after a win ffs.

That's exactly what it's about (that and the short attention spans/tempers of modern football fans). If we're making long-term decisions then the longest one we can make is that we sack him on the basis of finishing very slightly behind Arsenal with someone else's patchy squad.

He hasn't been here anywhere near long enough to show what he can do long term. Most won't afford him that luxury because in this country there's apparently something wrong with being intellectual.

That's because:

Harry's a qunt
He only has a job because he's part of the old boy's club
He ruins every club he goes to
Every club he leaves is in a worse position than he joined them in due to huge wage bills on ageing players who are managed by his mates
Chimbonda
His methods will never keep us up there with the big boys - that kind of player churn means we need Bales/Kings/VDVs/Modrics/Lennons coming through every couple of seasons.

AVB never owes up to his mistakes
He's got us playing the most boring brand of football known to man
We don't look like ever scoring
We don't look like ever creating any meaningful chances
We've had about 2 good home performances in nearly 1 and a half years
He has his favourites and will persist with them even after months of poor form
He bull****s to the media
He still thinks we're "very very efficient in attack"
we're currently 9th with a hard set of fixtures to come
He boasts about our great defensive record at every opportunity...bet he won't say **** all now

Ah that was easy.

He's hardly an intellectual. He's into football and fast cars. He's upper middle class though.

I don't see any reason why his team hasn't gelled yet and haven't looked like gelling for a season and half. Only 3 of the players that started yesterday were new players. Emirates Marketing Project had 4.

The question people should be asking is was he just lucky to become Porto manager at that time with Falcao and Moutinho.
If he wants the fans to back him I think he needs to reveal his long term plan for the club and the way he wants us to play.
Its up to him now to step up and show why he's getting paid the big bucks.

If you could sack AVB and immediately replace him with Redknapp, would you? And how much money would you give him to spend?

Come off it Scara, people aren't critisizing him because they think he's intellectual. They're being critical because of the way we're performing. It's as simple as that.

If it was 'old wide boy 'Arry' (who isn't know to be particularly intellectual) managing the team with these performances he would also be critisized.

I really believe you're reading too much into it.

Re: ***The Official AVB Discussion Thread***

Villas-Boas said: "My responsibility is to lift the players, there is always another game coming. We have to give a response in the Europa League."

No. You just don't get it. You'll do it again, you'll put far too much resource into a meaningless game on Thursday and we'll suffer the consequences against Utd. I couldn't give a flying **** what the score is on Thursday, we're already through!
Play the U21s on Thursday, while you work with the first team on how they beat Man U.
