The "Official" 2013/14 Other teams matches thread

It would be public humiliation for Moyes if Fergie came back in any sort of capacity, whatever they chose to call it. Moyes job would be completly untenable.

I feel a bit bad for Bale to be honest, to me he just doesn't seem like he fits in to the playing style. He's not great in tight spaces. He's not great at the Spanish league style. Ronaldo is physically excellent but he's also technically great as well.

Bale's had one good season when the team was built around him to get the best out of his strengths. He doesn't look to me like he will get as much chance to shine and he will be branded a failure. And you could kind of see it happening and yet for some reason he was determined to push it through.

I've never been impressed with Bales close control or tight passing, so it always baffled me when people put him up there with Ronaldo and Messi. I put him in the same bracket as a Robben or a Ribery.

I agree.

To be fair, if we look at it like that, it makes Ronaldo the best player ahead of Messi. Because he really is complete. Messi is of course a genius, but Ronaldo is an absolute total package of a footballer.

Bale was putting on world class performances but in a side that was built to allow him to do that, in a league that tends to give him the space to utilise those strengths. When Bale is getting the ball on the right of the box in this match I'm not expecting him to do anything. He ran in to two players a minute a go and I thought it was inevitable. He slowed down a counter a while back because he didn't quite have the technical quality to reach Isco and hit it behind his run. It's a bit sad.

If he had played another year at Spurs, in the system AVB is now playing, he may have developed his technical side and learned how to play better in the tight spaces, and been more prepared for Real. As it is, I fear for him. He may improve and prove me wrong, as he has improved all his career. But I'm not so sure he will.

Bale has been dog****. He could atleast try and get invovled.

Gonna be nasty if / when the fans turn on him.

At the moment you can tell they expect a lot. If he keeps up like that (which isn't entirely his fault, a team should sign him for his suitability of his talents not just because he's 'the best player they can buy') then the fans will get ****ed. It will be sad.

Ronaldo has more physical attributes and a better shot. I don't know if he's more complete though, once you take into account passing, vision and creativity -- Messi being much superior at those things.

Saw a list on the BBC the other week, due to the Ozil signing, of the top assists men in European football over the past 5 seasons. Ozil was number 1. Messi was number 2. Considering the ridiculous amount that he actually scores, to be number 2 in assists along with that is just incredible. I don't think Ronaldo was on the list (iirc, it was a top 5 of assists).

IMO, Messi is in a league of his own.

It may be the alcohol, but I've decided to change my Liverpool win to a draw. Caretaker manager effect FTW!

I get that but whatever you slice it we've still spent £100m, hardly peanuts. The difference is we spend what we make but you I can't dance if other fans highlight the fact that we've spent money this season.

Don't get what you think we should be emabarrased about? We made about 6m in transfers this summer. Tbh if you can't counter the argument you raised there from other fans then there's no hope for you.

I just mean in terms that Ronaldo can fit into absolutely every style of football, be it technical of physical, in a way I'm not sure Bale can. Or rather Bale can, but he will only look world class in a system designed for him. Ronaldo would look world class I'm anything.

And then by that token, I'm not sure how Messi would do outside of Barca football. Probably pretty damn well, but unfortunately for him he doesn't have Ronaldo's physical abilities despite being a genius with a football. So it's tough to say but I reckon Ronaldo shades it by being more complete in that sense.
