Vlad Chiriches....central defender on his way to Spurs?

Don't get me wrong - I rate him highly. I just don't think it's fair to necessarily compare having him in the squad over Chiriches or vice-versa as they're very different types of CB.

There may even be an argument as to whether a player like this and Verts could even play together?? If both like to bring the ball out we'd have to ensure they're very disciplined in their positioning.

if we have two dm's in front of them - sandro and paulinho - then its some teamwork required amongst six players - including the two CBs and the two speedy wing backs

here is the very latest from Romania, and its not good news........the move seems to have fallen through

The source of all this following info comes from MM Stoica who is the Steaua general manager. He is currently live on tv on one of the most popular football shows.

the owner Gigi Becali, who is in jail, got very upset that Spurs demanded the player be transferred immediately. "who are Tottenham, who do they think they are. Chiriches is going nowhere" was his response

the general manager Stoica then went on to say that Chiriches will not move now, but possibly in the winter. He said the offer from Spurs was a good one, but they feel his value will grow by playing more games with Steaua in the CL, so they will be able to sell him for far more

Stoica also said that Spurs wanted to pay the 6 mill pound fee in instalments and that was completely unacceptable to Steaua who if they had sold would have wanted the 6 mill in one payment

the player has just found out about the move falling through and is disappointed, but Stoica said that he will have to live with the decision and get on playing for Steaua

so for now, it looks off.....

if we're selling Caulker then id assume the deal is close to being done regardless of that piece above

If the owner doesn't want to sell then they won't sell.

Selling Caulker is an even stupider move considering Vertonghen is going to miss the first game or so, and Kaboul might not be match fit.

We have two fit CB's for the first game of the season. I know, lets sell one. :-"

im questioning the validity of the quotes above - i guess a link to the original material wouldn't go amiss :-k

that and he wouldn't be the first chairman to say he doesn't want to sell a player only to go on and do just that

thats what Spurs probably envisioned, but the general manager said in no way would Chiriches be sold now.

it was a live tv interview. I watched it, i can speak and understand Romanian. The written press will now write their articles based on what was said in that interview

"It's official! Chiriches's transfer to Tottenham will not be completed.
Tottenham made an offer of € 8 million for the transfer of Vlad Chiriches but Ioan Becali announced that the move should be perfected today because the British team can not wait.

Mihai Stoica (Steaua's manager) announced tonight on Fanatik Show on Digisport, that the transfer will not be done because Gigi Becali will not accept the offer coming from Tottenham: "There is an offer for Chiriches 8 million. Do not know where Gigi saw the statement (that Spurs want him right know and will not wait for Steaua to qualify in the UCL group stage) but called me and told me: "Tottenham will not wait? but who is Tottenham? They can not wait another day? Then he is no longer for sale. That's it! My name is Gigi Becali, I won't accept this ".
If this ultimatum din not existed the the transfer would gave been perfected, but Gigi's ego was aroused by this. Now he wont sell it for any amount.

Chiriches owes Steaua more than Steaua owes to him. He won't leave until winter. I informed the player about this also."

i missed that part of the post, thanks for clearing that up Indianspur

still though, think it's just part of the dance that clubs play in these situations - especially the 'can't wait another day' part
