Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

Problem is, United had other world class players (Giggs, Scholes, Rooney, Vidic, De Saar) just a few that could "bale" (see what I did there?!) them out and they still won the league without him. So they can afford to lose one of their "world class" players.

Bale is pretty much our only World Class player (maybe Lloris) so we are fcuked if we sell him. Completely different situations dude.

So even United, one of the biggest clubs in the world selling their best player isn't enough to show you that it can happen to any team, because they have other good players? Of course it can happen to us if it can happen to them, the fact that we don't have other players on Bale's level or near it is because of where we are as a club. Harsh reality.

Also please answer about where this extra money we should be spending is hiding? And please answer why if Levy was only interested in profit and increasing his 'performance bonus' (something you are completely making up as it relates to player transfers) did he accept less Modric money after holding onto him for a year and giving us the best chance to compete?

Re: Gareth Bale

The level of idiocy on this board is amazing

In the current world of football, players hold all the power, Levy has no say about if Carrick/Keane/Berbs/Modric/Bale stay or leave, the most he can do is offer the player another option (wage increase), and force the buying club to pay the absolute best price.

People forget United sold Ronaldo to Real ... so people think us selling Modric (or Bale) makes us a selling club? compared to which club isn't?

which is what I have said.....its down to Bale.

just hope he either signs quickly or says he wants to go as we need a swift outcome on this.

Perez will bid before madrid elections that will defo happen as he is madrid fans no 1 choice and they have made all the noises.

so the question is does Bale want to go?????? that will not be levy's fault.....

but it will be levy's job to mitigate damage of losing our best player and prepare us for next season with avb in recruiting replacements.

Re: Gareth Bale

Dude, cant be bothered to argue with someone who has "Levy" in his username.

You have completely missed my point regarding Utd selling Ronaldo by the way...

I said probably a lot. Hence why it probably is made up. Im not stating fact. Im stating my opinion, but we have made profits. We have money.

stick it up Michael Essien's Japseye!
:ross: When the time comes, I hope that's Dan's exact phrase.

Money talks. As I said earlier, we are a business first and foremost. Profit over success. Unfortunately you have to spend big to win nowadays (unless you have heart and desire like Wigan did for the FA Cup but thats lost its glory a little anyway).

It appears (as I do not know Levy or the board) that we are a selling club (Berbatov, Modric, VDV) and would rather make a profit than take risks in trying to win something. That's fine for the stability of the club and if you want to keep making profits (a bit like Ar5enal) but a time comes when football is about winning and you need to take that extra risk or spend that extra 2 or 3 million to try and get success.

Unfortunately we are a small time club compared to Utd, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barca so we will more than likely lose our players to the big clubs. But how can you change that tag of being a small club when you keep selling your best players?
Slowly and with some difficulty, which is what we're doing/trying to do. You make it sound like he wanted to sell those guys, Levy fought to keep the likes of Berbs and Modders, he didn't roll over. Both pretty much refused to work to force him to sell them.

And an extra 2 or 3 million? Drop in the ocean. Maybe 10 times that. I'd rather Spurs didn't run up a huge debt leveraged against future earnings from competitions we might not qualify for, if we do that we might as well go the whole hog and replace Levy with Ridsdale.

Re: Gareth Bale

The over reaction and sense of panic in the last few pages of this thread is ridiculous.
1 the agent didnt do anything but say usual agent brick
2 his interview on marca is edited to brick to make it sound better to a madrid audience than it is
3 perez is fudged now he missed out on neymar. he has to be seen to be trying to bring in a huge player
4 marca is nothing else but a real madrid propaganda paper run by the president of the club

I'm only trying to debate the facts based on what has happened before. If you can show me in our accounts where there is a big extra pot of money waiting to be spent, or explain why Levy is only interested in profit when he turned down a bigger fee for Modric in order to sell him for less a year later, then please do.

I came up with the username because before AVB joined I really wanted him and thought Levy would too, when it all happened I jokingly thought to myself 'I'm in the brain of Levy!' And while I think he's a great chairman, I'm only trying to debate the facts and not be biased towards him.

Im not saying Levy is a bad chairman, he has turned this club around. But we will always be going sideways if we sell our best players. We do not have other world class players to bail us out. No matter what money we get for Bale we will be going sideways or backwards if we sell Bale. My opinion wont change, I think we are business first, football club second.

Re: Gareth Bale

I also don't think I've missed the point on United selling Ronaldo, I just don't agree with yours. If they sell him and have other great players, great, it's because they are Manchester United. If we sale Bale and don't have anyone near his level, it's because we are Tottenham Hotspur. It doesn't change the fact that any club apart from Real and Barca will sell their best players, because there will always be Someone just higher up the fold chain.

Re: Gareth Bale

Also all you talking about how money controlls football. Bale has a new tv ad campaign in which hes signing tottenham jersey's. The 'moneymen would never allow that if he was going to madrid.

fair enough sir, I dont want to get into an argument as all this should be is a debate! I dont think we have endless amounts of money but I do think we have made profits from Modric, Berbatov, Carrick, VDV (small amount) so we do have some money. I just think if we had have gone the extra mile (which is probably only £5m) for say Leandro then we might be in the CL and wont need to sell Bale. Truth is Bale wants CL and I wont blame him for going, but a part of me thinks Levy wants to sell Bale at his prime for money so we are in a profit. If he really wanted us to push for CL or the league then he needs (or needed) to buy someone big and spend a bit more money.

I cant show you the accounts I'm afraid!

im not panicking dude just trying to be realisitic.

1 do you think real madrid will bid for bale (if not already done so)
2 do you think Bale will want to go.

I agree what you say regarding marca but they set their sights more on Bale than Neymar.

Anyone who doesnt think Madrid will bid for bale and bale wont have to make a massive career changing decision is deluding themselves.

This special relationship with Madrid is not going to be so special for us.

At best I think we could get away with agreeing to sell him next summer to madrid.

one more season of bale in our shirt is what I want(actually many years of him winning titles for spurs is what i want) but I dont think this will happen.....hope im wrong.

10 days from now we will be in a world of poo concerning madrd/bale.

Re: Gareth Bale

Any player in the world apart from a select few would listen to Madrid if their offer was accepted. Levy will not be accepting any offers this summer.

Any club looking to sign Bale this summer would have to comfortably break the world transfer record before Levy would consider selling IMO.

This is all irrelevant if Levy says no. We underwent the same brick with Modric when he had 3 years remaining on his contract. Modric didn't even want to stay. I think due to his age and the risk associated with moving to any of the likely destinations this season, compared with the security of a manager who loves him and a team that is, and will continue to be, built around him, Bale wouldn't actually mind staying for another season. Considering he also has 3 years left on his contract, I just can't see Levy selling unless its for utterly silly money. Levy's excellent contract negotiations have given us this leverage, as opposed to the terrible dealings of the gooners recently (he would probably have 1 year left by now...).

If next season we put up a decent challenge for the title (can't see a runaway leader like this year) and qualify for the CL, I believe Bale will sign a 1 year contract extension and stay another year.

Levy and everyone associated with the club know Bale is as close to a ticket to the big time as we are going to get for many years. Although I think we would continue to challenge for a place in the top 4 if he were to leave, with him in our team we can realistically target winning the league and the CL in the medium term. His value will not drop significantly over the coming year and if we use him well enough next season, with the right additions, we won't even have to consider selling him next summer.

The only thing that makes sense is to reject every offer that comes in. We have proven with Modric and to some extent Berba and Carrick, that we will only sell our key players on our terms.

I really hope that plays out ...I really do.

but player power is too strong - if Bale wants to leave then Levy plays a game of damage limitation for spurs.

really hope your right but still predict a world of crap in 10 days two weeks time. Madrid wont give in just cause Levy says no!

Re: Gareth Bale

First of all.. Jonathan Barnett is a fudging suck up qunt, those quotes with Marca shows the slimey **** sucker he is. A real honour Mr Madrid.. do me a fudging favour you fat qunt.

Next.. Bale is staying. Bale is staying. Bale is staying. IMO Bale has two choices. Sign a new contract, or do us all a favour and fudge of early. Personally I think he is staying, and whilst he does decide to stay.. sack that slimey fat qunt you got as an agent and bring back your respect that he shoved out to the world to see like a used condom from a trannies arsehole.

Football really fudges me off at the minute.

100% Bale will stay, and Mods post above is how I see it, still Barnett is a qunt.

I don't think Bale would want to move to a non english speaking country yet in his career, especially as his kid isn't even a year old.
Bale knows this isnt his one chance to join Madrid they'll still be there next season.
I dont think Madrid are willing to offer a Ronaldo type fee that Levy would be willing to accept this summer.

Re: Gareth Bale

This is just negociations. A new contract has been offered, Bale wants more, the agent is pushing talking Madrid up so Levy gives more cash.

Re: Gareth Bale

You always get these kind of 'deal collapsing' stories when good news is expected and doesn't happen immediately.

The artefical rollercoaster just draws more attention than acknowledging that 'talks are progressing'.

Next we will have - 'Inter president says Spurs still £8m out with their valuation of Leandro' and 'Barcelona have had no contact from Spurs over Villa'.

Ultimately all three are probably chugging along nicely and will get there in their own good time.

I'm not saying it'll be easy, but Levy has proven that in this situation (3 years left and incredible pressure from other clubs/ in the media to sell), he can say no all summer.

A fee in the region of £100m would give us enough to genuinely improve the squad even considering the loss of Bale. £20m to the coffers, £50m on 2 replacements, £30m on £100k of their weekly wages for 3 years. If Perez is that desperate for a big signing, he will pay that sort of money. Otherwise he can fudge off.
