New Years Eve

My wife got me a trip to New York for my Christmas present. Amazing city! 27th - 1st. Although I must confess we did give Times Square a swerve on nye the crowds were epic - 1million est, we came out of the theatre at 5pm and it was mental could get nowhere near the ball drop, and had to walk 4 extra blocks back to our hotel.

Worth it though. What a great City.

Chu-chuuuuuu!

I wanna go to New York so bad. What did you get up to over there?

First full day paid $70 for breakfast... Didn't do that again!

Went on a tourist bus to make sure we saw everything got a bit of knowledge about the place. Then we done Statue of Liberty cruise with Brooklyn bridge thrown in. Went to the 9/11 memorial, they have done a great job, very un-crass and respectful. Took in the prep for Times Square, done the carriage ride around Central Park in the snow which was quite amazing (only time it snowed while we were there).
Had a stroll down 5th Ave looking at the extreme window decs. Had a go on the 'Big' piano of Tom Hanks fame.
Took in as much if Macy's as I could bear.
Went to the top of the Rockefeller centre at sunset and got some relatively decent pics.
Finally took in a broadway show and saw in the new year back at the hotel.
Things to note, chain restaurants are good as they tend not to take the tinkle with pricing, we done TFI and Applebee's. Irish bars charge a fortune in the vicinity of Times Square, wife had wine $10 (ok) Guinness was $9! Maybe I'm just tight!
Summary, Great city, and an amazing present!

Kenyan - that's shocking from Rock, but I expect nothing less from that South Park watching buddy-man :)

Sad to hear your ordeal but fear not - perhaps one day you can have a visit from DHSF who will definitely give you a hand in the kitchen (one way or another :-").

We went all the way up to Namibia over December/Jan - proper road-trip - drove around 8000km in 3 weeks. Had a blast - saw a Lion kill a zebra about 40-50m away from us at Etosha, will post pics later if anyone is interested. Then ****ing hyenas came and took his kill - very sad. He was alone and looked old and skiny - really needed a meal. Terrible animals those - must be goons. Eventually ended up on their west coast for New Years - beach party, good times. Ate ridiculous amounts of sea food and went on a boat trip with a live seal (you could pet it and feed it fish - they're tame)

Great country to visit - strongly recommend

I wouldn't trust the word of Kenyan farther than I can throw ArcE, you're all in it together and probably the same guy/gurl. And I'll raise you your seal and go on a car trip with a dead seal, in a re-run!

This thread is useless without a lion killing a zebra just to get snubbed by a pack of hyenas later on.

Surely a reply of "I'm not your buddy, friend!" was in order, Rock? How you disappoint me, cut him adrift.

Did Kenyan ever explain the picture of Mombasa train station? Has Kenyan turned out to be a figment of KD's imagination after all? :-k

No need to explain the pictures. These are old ones from the net.
Just Google "Mombasa Railway Station" and you will find them right there.

Rock is digging a bigger hole for himself with every post :-"

Hahaha - we just wanted to 'condense' a lot of places in a short period of time - still young and can handle it but in retrospect it felt a bit tiring towards the ends. Next holiday would be a single destination, that's for sure (hopefully The Lane!)

Here's one pic so far - just after he snapped the zebra. Taken early morning around 6:30 am - hence the poor lighting / lack of shadows.

BLINDING photo...great frame/composition...you're very obviously not a novice. Technically it's great too (though I'm guessing you did some 'shopping, but whatever, the work is really nice...) I'd love to see more...BTW, you mentioned 'poor light'...natural light!!!!! VERY impressed with this shot...
