Emmanuel Adebayor - Officially gone \o/

...last few games however he has just been a complete pile of toss

Not been prolific of late. Dwelling too long on the ball or making poor choices when he does get chances. More importantly, not getting into goal scoring positions often enough, IMO. All too frequently, we get into good positions and we have no one in the middle (one of the drawbacks of playing one up front, I suppose).

Agreed. And that's perhaps why he's here on loan (with Emirates Marketing Project paying MOST of his wages hahaha) and not still at Madrid or another established CL team. He still adds a lot and works his gonad*s off every game.

He was dogbrick today. Cant remember him having a single shot today.

I've never liked Adebayor & i still don't. I can't warm to him or like him. I don't think he's been that good either.

He reminds me of Crouch in some ways... he is definitely not The Solution. The question is whether we are better off with him, or without him.

His link up play can sometimes be incredibly frustrating, but he still offers alot more than any of our other strikers.

These are all negative points from January 14th when this thread was started. It all still applies today, apart from the bold bit.

Re: So what has gone wrong with adebayor?

Dempsey was new to the team and in hindsight (I slaughtered him mind you) he needed time playing in a new role. In regards to Ade - its the fact he isnt putting in the effort. It is fairly plain to see - to paraphrase Gary Neville - I can see it with my very own eyes. I dont mind if he isnt scoring but he is impact negatively on Defoe in that prior to Ade's return Defoe was performing at a higher level to what he is now. Ade isnt new to the team and is used to most of the players surrounding him, he just isnt putting in the effort and its about time he bucked his ideas up and start grinding.

Agreed. Even though Sig and Dempsey got off to a slow start for us, I can't fault a player who is clearly giving everything. The one time Adebayor was truly up for it this season, he was too pumped up and got himself sent off in the process. We did pretty well without him too IIRC. On his day, he can be unplayable, but how many days does he have like that? Just because he's better than any striker we've had since Berbatov doesn't mean we shouldn't strive to get someone better. I can't believe people are happy with his output this season and his performances.

Re: So what has gone wrong with adebayor?

Just FYI

So his individual stats are poor, we are winning more games without him than with him, so what exactly are people saying he's done well this season because I'm struggling to think of anything?

Re: So what has gone wrong with adebayor?

Any source, newspaper, video clip, even ITK or whatever of him retiring during the summer??? Please...

He retired once! After getting shot at and watching people being shot and die in front of him...

He then retired/suspended his international career once over a pay conflict with the football association, this lasted a matter of months and was clearly never a permanent retirement.

I find your description of his actions incredibly insensitive.

I remember it being mentioned on here. Maybe the sources were wrong. For example Google tells me Jordinho posted a Daily Mail article from August 15th but I can't remember all events at all times:

Where he is described as a former Togo striker. The journalist is probably wrong, but that is the sort of thing I read on this site.
The article is a lovely summary of a lovely guy http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ayors-money-problems--Neil-Ashton-column.html

If that is your full reply I believe this conversation is over.

I edited my quote of your previous post to remove the quoted part. If you change your mind and agree that your description was out of line you can just edit or delete your post and it's out of the world.

5 of those 13 games were sub appearances, 2 of those sub appearances were in losses against Wigan and Chelsea where he played about 30 and 15 mins respectively. One of his starts was against Arsenal and he got sent off (which was obviously bad but it doesn't really give an accurate reflection of our performances with/without him). The other two losses Ade has appeared in were starts against Emirates Marketing Project and Everton, both away from home.

The other 8 games were the loss against Saudi Sportswashing Machine on the first day of the season with 7 wins against Reading, Man U, QPR, Southampton, West Ham, Liverpool and Fulham. Aside from Man U, where we were quite lucky (for once) and Liverpool where we they were dominating us in possession for stretches of the game, the remaining 5 wins are against significantly weaker opposition than the 5 teams we lost to while he was playing.

Statistics are almost entirely useless.

Re: So what has gone wrong with adebayor?

He's retired and unretired and retired and unretired and retired and unretired since April 2010 so it depends which retirement we're talking about; the guy changes his mind more often than Wenger in a Sunday school. I remember him retiring before we signed him, and people saying that was good as he wouldn't go to ACN.

As DHSF said, I can cope if he misses chances, but it is the lack of effort, drifting around the pitch, jogging, smiling, walking, letting others run past him to chase back, not spending enough time in the box that annoys me. He should be the focus of our attack, our most expensively remunerated player, our leader, our talisman, our matchwinner busting a gut to get on the end of every ball and throwing himself into challenges. But he is the opposite. He will score if a nice ball comes along, but he won't kill himself to score if it isn't a good ball.

Those are my feelings too. Plus his laxadaisical attitude to winning headers and getting back from an offside position.

Re: So what has gone wrong with adebayor?

After Sigurðsson, Dempsey and Walker, Adebayor must be this months Jenas

Wasn't he offside more than any other player in the league last season? We've got the two worst ones for being offside.

I think he was. I always thought Defoe got offside a lot needlessly - but Ade takes the prize.

I was always convinced he would bugger off to the ANC. Typical grandstanding taco. Lets get a new striker in NOW.

Re: So what has gone wrong with adebayor?

I think this is more accurate...

Football is not played in a table. Ade has been drifting about everywhere except for the box and opening up space, he has been seeing very little time in front of goal and given that he has always been a poor finisher it is not particularly astounding that he has missed a few sitters.

No-one is denying he is not at his best but many of the stats being wheeled out make him out to be pony. If I hadn't seen nearly every Spurs game this season I might believe them. He has not been especially poor. Let's just hope you're right about him hindering Defoe and we will see the little man go on another hot streak in Ade's absence...

You must be watching a different player to the rest of us. If you dont want to believe the stats - just look at his ratings given on this forum for virtually every game this season. His heart just aint in it for some reason.

Just like the ratings for some of our other players they are skewed by heavy bias. Defoe has gotten equally poor ratings recently and contributes less, but there's very little talk of him needing to be dropped.

Adebayor was the player caught offside the most last season, a total of 51 times. Defoe held that title back in the 2010 season with a total of 48.

Darren Bent managed to beat them both to that particular honour in 2011 with an astounding 68 offsides

That's because he's scored goals and his overall play has surprised people, including myself who didn't believe he had the skills to play up front on his own. And Defoe may not be an elite striker in terms of his general play, his work rate is without question much better than Adebayor's.

the last 6 games or so both have 1 goal a piece (iirc) but Adebayor is far more involved in general play (touches per game etc) yet he is the one singled out.
