This is for the Americans on the board, do you think America's outlook on guns/laws will change in our lifetime?

People. What's wrong with people, not with this country. The country did not make this lunatic go and kill kids. Surely state gun laws made it easier, but this isn't representative of the country. Come on.
 
Americans are no different from anyone else. We all have loonies who go on killing sprees. The problem is that they are better armed in the US, so more people die.

While many will call for more arms control, there will be vocal groups saying the causalities would have been less if the teachers or even the kids were armed. Unfortunately it will be viewed as collateral damage for half of the second amendment.

ok, not really gonna argue but seriously... what the fudge is your point? I'm not trying to make any broad political points, just asking myself 'wtf' over and over and over again.
 
Sorry NYSpurs, your country assigns greater importance to its citizens being able to arm themselves for protection (from what?) than it does the safety of its innocent citizens.

Heart goes out to the families of the victims. Absolute horror.

Hard to have similar sympathy for the institution that is the mighty USA until they actually do something about it.

The problem is when it happens in america it becomes a major news story. Happens in China or Africa it might just about get a mention somewhere.

If that asshole had poisoned a bunch of kids to death, none of our politicians would be afraid to discuss poison control.

If any other plague was leaving piles of dead bodies all over the country, including children, our country would figure it out.

There's a weird sort of sliding scale on the price of life. Hurricane Sandy types disasters will get ten times the media coverage of a similar incident in the east that takes ten times as many lives.
 
Think I speak for everyone when I say I sincerely hope Obama comes out in the next couple of days and announces that America are seriously going to look at changing the laws surrounding gun control. He's out of office in just over 3 years anyway, what does he have to lose? The election has been and gone.

LOL he has no control over law making though. Its not like in Britain where Cameron can vote something through parliament. He hasnt a chance of getting anything like that through a republican majority Houses of Representatives. He couldnt even close Guantanamo Bay when he wanted to. They have the DOF of political systems :p
