Christmas Dinner

southstand1882

Mitchell Thomas
Already planning the centrepiece to my Christmas dinner this year.

Currently, I'm thinking a three bird roast (Turkey, Goose & Chicken)

Bird in a bird in a bird

Anybody else going the three / five bird route?

Not a fan of those 3 bird roasts. Dry.

Better off roasting 1 of each imo. And then eating the leftovers in a 3 meat curry.

Hmm generally I dislike anyone who tinkles about with Xmas dinner, but that is just about acceptable. As nice as that looks, you should stick to the rules - ie buy a great big turkey and cook it properly, with no other meat involved.

I know at some point someone is going to come along and ruin this thread by mentioning beef.

I'm hungry.

My christmas party this year is at OXO Tower wooohooo... Free drink n food n hopefully sex on a photocopier (not gonna happen - no photocopiers)

Nice normal turker roast because it is christmas and you caan eat what you want the rest of the year but at christmas it is turkey.

Going to have start making the christmas puddings soon but want to get the annual chrisstmas party at ours out the way first.

I did a four or five bird version with some friends once. I can't remember which five though, possibly Turkey, Goose, Duck?, Chicken and game hen/pheasant? We had a different stuffing between each layer. It was a lot of work and not really worth the effort. You can get a better tasting meal by keeping it simpler.

How about the following:

In his 1807 Almanach des Gourmands, gastronomist Grimod de La Reynière presents his rôti sans pareil ("roast without equal")—a bustard stuffed with a turkey, a goose, a pheasant, a chicken, a duck, a guinea fowl, a teal, a wood****, a partridge, a plover, a lapwing, a quail, a thrush, a lark, an ortolan bunting and a garden warbler

Weren't you on a diet, dude?

All diets go out of the window for that

I wouldnt have the pig though - I cant eat anything that fudgein has a head on it - actually anything that looks like the animal it came from. I.e. a fish? chp its head off and give me a fillet. A pork chop is fine but not a fudgein spitroasted pig. I can imagine you like a good old spitroast but not for me.

Hmmm

No Christmas dinner for me..................my roster has fallen so I'm night shifts Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day. So will be sleeping all day on the 25th in order that all those selfish bastards who insist on flying away on the 25th have flights to get on.

C unts.

Gonna go mad Boxing Day though.

I'm thinking roast pork (hopefully with crackling) with a seafood starter.

If anyone has any tips on how to crisp up the skin please post..

In Australia due to the head, seafood is a major part of Xmas Day food - oysters, prawns.

The Enemy will not even consider anything other than Turkey and all the trimmings for Chrimbo dinner, if that's what makes her happy then that's good enough for me.

As regards my roster, yeah, mine's pretty brick too, I'm on courses 10-13th Dec and 17-20th Dec, break for annual leave on 21st Dec until 3rd Jan, they asked me to help out with on call over Christmas but I blanked all the emails.

Having said all that, I could be made redundant in early new year so it ain't all perfick.
