Jan Vertonghen

Re: Jan Vertonghen official

H Redknapp on the top 6 signings of the summer....SuperJan is one of them

JAN VERTONGHEN (Spurs)

HE’S a hell of a player — one of the growing number of Belgians who are tearing up the Premier League.

Vertonghen is someone who is right up there with the best.

To be honest he was on our radar for a long time when I was manager at Spurs and the deal was pretty much done by the end of the season. In fact he was in the crowd to watch our final Premier League game of the season against Fulham.

He can play as a left-sided centre-back or at left-back and he stands out in either position. Plus he is capable of chipping in a few goals, which is priceless for a defender.

He got his first for Spurs at Carlisle in midweek, and it won’t be the last.

One of the things which has really impressed me about Vertonghen is his mentality — he is such a strong character. He’s an established international and is already proving that he’ll have no trouble adapting to the English game. Even if he had cost £12m, he would be a real steal.

Re: Jan Vertonghen official

he is such a brilliant marauding left back, but looks super comfortable at centre half too. Im beginning to wonder where he will find a long term home. I bet he can play defensive midfield too

Absolutely love him

Re: Jan Vertonghen official

By the end of this season (if he's not already) Vertonghen will be a £25m to £30m player.

But that's just academic - I hope we'll be seeing him in a Spurs shirt for the best part of the next decade.

Manure will be looking for a defender shortly if yesterday is anything to go by (Rio's performance)

Re: Jan Vertonghen official

By the way who is club captain at the moment?

I don't think we have an official one - AVB just seems to give the armband to whoever is the most experienced player on the pitch.

Yesterday it was Gallas, Lennon had it for Lazio, Dawson led the lads out against Carlisle.

Re: Jan Vertonghen official

Dawson is club captain i thought

which is different from the armband wearing captain on the pitch ?

Re: Jan Vertonghen official

I think image a new favourite player... Although I think he's great at left back, I actually think his best position is still CB, he's a little to wild at left back for me, weird considering he's a defender... What a player though. The guy is unreal!

I did think about ding a parody thread of the 'have we wasted £30M' with 'have we created £30M' instead!

Re: Jan Vertonghen official

We have to sing the superman theme to him on sunday

Sold! Love the giff, I'm sure it will make its way to Jan, if he hasn't seen it already!

I think his fearlessness inspired the team yesterday. He was the catalyst for that amazing 1st half.

If we could turn it into a slow rendition like our 'oh when the spurs' I think that would be super (yes the pun was intended).
