***TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR vs Leeds OMT***

Pretty comfortable with it not being a red as a single incident. He was clearly looking to the right and it was unfortunate that his left foot stood on the back of Tel's. But...this isn't a single incident. The bar has been set, including by this ref for the Xavi red. That he wasn't asked to look at it on the monitor is dumbfounding.

Other than that, a pretty terrible performance. Never looked like scoring and just lacked a lot of energy.

Agreed. I’d rather we just have more common sense overall because I think all of Bentancur, Mateta, Xavi last season, a lot of these don’t need to be reds. Minimal contact, or accidental because the opposing player just moved too quickly at the last second. If we left reds for obviously intentional or obviously reckless, I’d be perfectly fine with it.

But as you say, that just isn’t the bar, And I can’t for the life of my understand why they can’t understand that when a bar is set on a particular decision, that becomes the standard they should ref it on, at least in that season. If they then want to look at the threshold over the summer, fine. There is just insufficient weight to precedent set throughout a season and I think an overweighting to what the ‘rules’ say. That may sound silly when talking about a ref, because it’s their job to enforce them. But I think the rules are interpreted beyond their logical function and we just get so many frankly dumb incidents of inconsistency. Bentancur was not ‘being violent’ any more than Palmer or Shaw were, and yet he gets sent off because there’s something written down about head butting. You can apparently stamp on someone’s ankle and force them to be subbed if you are going slower, and you can be carded if you win the ball and completely slow your momentum (Porro). The whole thing is so stupid.

So then you don’t let Lankshear go or you ensure Richarlison is in the squad. Complete mismanagement of resources.
Richarlison is not the answer and the lack of a competent striker was not the problem today. Finishing was not the issue, supply ie. the lack of creativity was. Unless we are talking an absolute world class player, there is no striker who gets a goal today when the team structure was incapable of actually creating for one. Yes striker is a problem but you're misdiagnosing today's problem.

Unsurprisingly MOTD side with the ref. The simple thing to ask Proref is to ask what the difference was with the Xavi one. They’ve found some funky wording to defend today’s decision which they didn’t find for Xavi. As I said above - all b0ll0x.
I’m waiting for the ‘he’s not that kind of player’ argument to be trotted out.

Agree with that. The other thing that winds me up is that we were left with 10 men for a minute because of it, and in that time the fullback who could have been sent off nearly set up a goal.

How refs aren’t given the ability to make common-sense decisions also dumbfounds me. The bloke in your ear has just watched the incident 300 times, why can’t you both make a decision that yeah, Tel wasn’t wasting time, he wasn’t cheating and it’s extremely unfair to enforce the one minute rule simply because he got treatment, and leave the guy who caused it (accident or not) to just carry on.

They spend so much fudging time pouring over absolutely nonsense and ignore the little things that would make the game better. Same with Andy Robertson (I think it was) being penalised for a foul throw in the last minute. Give them all fudging game or just get on with it!

I’m literally judging Solanke’s performance. No need to overthink it.

I think vdv is awful at CB. He always having to make last ditch tackles. He was awful today. And could have got sent off against Chelsea.
I would play him at left back.
I also think kudos is a one trick pony.
Van hekle had another good game.
As did Kinsky.

John Brooks has reffed 15 Premier League games involving Tottenham Hotspur
In those 15 games he showed Spurs 36 Yellows and 4 Reds
He showed the opposition teams 11 Yellows and 0 Reds the same 15 matches.
And I am sure all the other refs we have will have similar stats

He's a turd of a ref for us and looks like Connor from Succession

I think Solanke is useless also, he offers virtually zero offensively but truthfully yesterday was a creation problem, a lack of link between midfield and attack more than it was a poor striker problem. If the midfield had worked offensively then we would have the situation to complain about Solanke and Marmoush not taking advantage of what was presented but yesterday they weren't even given anything to fail at doing.

We need to fix the foundations first in this case the AM issue before we can really look at how the bricks were laid (the striker or lack of striker problem).

This
We created so little today
Unless you have a Sonny or Kane who score form nothing you ain’t scoring playing like we did (best chance was Gallagher taking that shot really well). The cross shot from Kudus was just that and arguably is one that maybe a striker would take
I do think changing the 10 role and also the focal CF role every game can’t help either. It’s a square peg problem
What I will say is I thought the line up could work and Marmosuh for example did try and engage their CBs better than I saw Solanke do (he looks a broken player with no legs, which is worrying because that was his biggest strength)
We have to play a player in that 10 role who plays there
Right now it’s Maddison or Gallagher (not the same type I know). Could be Marmoush in home games against genuinely weaker sides but that’s a gamble
I’d love to see Kulu get back to his best level but that’s a long way off if at all. I do think Xavi will suit it well though
But it’s fundamental to how we create chances

I’m not sure Kudus even has one trick - unless checking back and passing to a tightly marked teammate is considered a trick.

I have tried to not comment on the match because of my anger. I am beginning to have a bias against this league and the refs especially the treatment of flair players.

How to get confidence and rhythm into the forwards? That’s the key.

Shocker of a decision not to have a ref review - would have been a red. No attempt to play the ball and injured Tel with a dangerous studs up kick nowhere near the ball. Terrible decision. But we can’t rely on those decisions. The forwards need more determination and belief and to put teams to the sword.

If you have fact checked that perhaps you could send that onto the Club. It’s telling.

I still remember a match that Moss reffed where Dembele was about to breakaway for Spurs and I believe it was against Sunderland - when he was hacked down. I don't believe Moss even gave a yellow.
