I’d play Danso or VDV with one of the passers

How do you feel about these comments after watching him today?

That is as bad a debut from a new centre half as I've seen for a very long time. He was dragged all over the place, barely won a single physical battle in the air or on the ground and showed very little leadership considering his age and experience.

I will need some help to understanding this purchase based on today's performance.

In some ways we should just forget the fees. They are all players competing for 11 shirts.

I've already said this before but Romero was a way better defender than he was ever given credit for. It's up to these new guys to find these same levels if we are going to do anything. We really need to get Porro, JPvH, VDV, Udogie out there together with Tonali and Fernandez in the double pivot in front. We also need attackers who can defend better. Even Gallagher looked suspect defensively. He was doing his best impression of Hojbjerg yesterday letting the game just pass him by.

And he does switch off in games
Yesterday was bad, as bad as I’ve seen but new players need time as does RDZ
My worry with the defence is they need to be able to defend first and foremost and we saw all the weaknesses yesterday in our new signings game

Neither are strong defenders IMO

VDV Can be too
That’s the balance I think we need
Also did wonder where the midfield was yesterday because their midfield seemed to pick the ball up at will around our box

You can't play the lack of pace FBs either with them, Robbo, Senesi, JPVH. They had so much joy with gaps, Thiago played the perfect game

The problem there is VDV isn't a stable defender either. I've never really watched the 2 new boys so for them I'm going to wait to make a judgement but if what you say is true re then then Danso is the only true defender, defender we have. VDV is good in specific situations he's just as absent as what we saw yesterday in most others.

I get the defence will get looked at and questioned, but did no one else think the issues came from midfield? They played through and ran off our midfield at will, often leaving defenders multiple players to pick up. There was also zero control so we never forced them to reset and pull people back, where say Maddison will take a couple of touches and pick a pass to a team mate or Kudus would go on a run, push a few back or even Kulu would bully a few physically we had nothing at all so when they quickly got it back our defenders still had 5/6 players behind our midfield

It’s definitely how I see them as defenders
I do hope I’m wrong
Bergvall in midfield really didn’t help too
I’d happily sell him because who’s strengths are not what we need

The midfield offered nothing at both ends of the pitch
Bergvall was trying things in the wrong place repeatedly
Tonali was almost invisible
And Gallagher is an issue
Was when we brought him as there was not an obvious role for him and he ain’t a ten
The Gallagher role is something that needs sorting quickly because it’s key to progressing the ball (or not)
