Being outside the UK, I'd never heard of him or this situation before so I don't quite know how important a topic the plagiarism part actually was, but the fact it's even being discussed on a football forum is a bit of a sign of the problem to me. Everyone's got an opinion on everyone and everything they do. They join the pile on whether they mean to or not. In this case, it's hard the most tragic of consequences.

I get that we all discuss many non-Spurs and non-football topics, but sometimes things just don't need the discussion?

Plagerism is only part of the Arday story. He lied about qualifications to gain positions he had no right to access. He wrote books, went on speaking tours, television and podcasts to talk about his fabricated life story. He lied about having cancer, being disabled and about donating millions to charity. He got found out.

Does that mean he shouldn’t be alive anymore? Of course not.

But it’s absolute nonsense to suggest this shouldn’t have been something discussed in the media, let alone current affairs sub forum. Especially when 99% of the conversation was not mocking Arday and was predominately conversations adjacent of the Arday story.

But I will say and include myself in this, we could all have shown greater empathy for someone who was clearly in a bad place, I would rather self reflect on that than double down on their ills.

@revlis post wasn't a direct response to you but you felt the need to retell the story and "defend yourself"

No one mentioned you by name, you could have just said "fudge this is sad, I wouldn't wish this on anyone" rather than having to retell the bloke story and wrongs. Literally proving the point of the OP rather than defending yourself TBH.

Which still doesn't explain the need to reply to a generic post and double down on the story in the name of "defending yourself"

You literally proved peoples point.

As I say maybe take your foot off the gas and just show some pure unedited empathy rather than feel the need to retell the guys problems after he has killed himself

The generic post which suggested you, Steff, myself and anyone else were wrong for even discussing this story….its an absurd thing for him to say Marty.

It didn't name any of us by name, neither Steff or I felt slighted by it (sorry Steff if I am talking for you out of turn). I certainly didn't feel the need to rewrite what they guy had done wrong to defend myself.

If your emotion at this point is nothing more than just sadness for the guy, then maybe have a reset fella

It’s sad that anyone feels so hopeless that they see no option but to take their own life.

Hopefully his family are left alone as they are the true victims here.

As I’ve said since this story broke, Cambridge need to be held accountable for enabling him and I hope that doesn’t get swept under the carpet.
